Is there a connection between Sherman getting fired and moving to the SEC?

Sherman was not a fan of the conference move in the slightest. It was a point of contention between he and the administration.

Our AD at the time, Bill Byrne, wasn't a proponent of switching conferences either, especially without texas.

SEC move is basically the sole reason both men are no longer at TAMU.

really? you would feather be the third best team in the SEC West (in a good year) than the best team in the big 12.

I think there isn't a team in the Big 12 2012 who could ahem beat y'all.

I also think a Big 12 champ would get in over independent Notre Dame. Especially with Johnny Football at QB.

This would eat me alive like all of LSU's missed opportunities do. But y'all are just happy to get out of Texas's shadow.

It was better than the previous attempt (admittedly, that isn't saying much, but I'm tryna promote some animosity between TAMU and SC, so cut me a break )

Short memory you have. Mr Sip, Deloss Dodds, refused to even consider playing in the Cotton Bowl if A&M was the opponent.

I'm thinking you're the one with a short memory. aTm had only beaten UT 5 times since '95 before yall quit playing.

Talk about domination

Setting aside the trolling for a bit, the SEC effect on recruiting has made us the #1 choice in Texas for recruits, w/ no possible counter by UTx/OU etc. That kind of talent influx means that "third in the SEC West" (or #5 in the nation) is not our ceiling.

We nearly lost to La. Tech in 2012. Who's to say a Baylor or OSU on the right day couldn't have closed the deal?

You really think A&M gets in over Notre Dame? I don't think that happens at all. Especially because Johnny Football in the B12 doesn't get his signature win over Alabama. He would be entertaining, but many would chalk him up as just another B12 spread QB.

Also, because it's Freaking Notre Dame! They've still got so much "mystique" they nearly got a Heisman for a mediocre linebacker w/ an imaginary girlfriend.

Once momma came calling, we had to go home. Those two fat fricks weren't going to stop us.

I still love Sherm for personal reasons, but he HAD to go when he did with the attitude he had. No two ways about it.

You really think we would have kept Sherman if we weren't going to the SEC? That's a scary thought.

Sherm was a great evaluator of talent, a decent man, and a classy representative.

But he couldn't see the road forking 10 feet in front of him, and if he didn't feel the need for us to go home to the SEC when she called, he wasn't a true Ag.

Saying that we weren't the #1 expansion choice in all of realignment is silly and isn't worth arguing with you about.

As the more South like and less Texas like school yall were the better cultural fit, but let's not act like there weren't bigger fish we looked at.

Ok the Texas thing was trolling and not intended to be subtle. The bigger fish thing is true, but let's just say A&M was always at the top of the realistic chance list.

Yup. He was showing improvement and tangibly "restocking the cupboard" after the debacle that was the Fran era. I think we would have been stuck with him long term had we remained in the big12.

Scary thought indeed.
