EDITED to add annual research dollars and sorted by rank
The American Athletic Conference consists of 12 current prestigious institutions:
University of South Florida = 489 million in annual research dollars
University of Cincinnati = 423 million in annual research dollars
University of Connecticut = 258 million in annual research dollars
Temple University = 224 million in annual research dollars
University of Central Florida = 186 million in annual research dollars
Tulane University = 159 million in annual research dollars (also AAU school)
University of Houston = 141 million in annual research dollars
University of Mississippi = 110 million in annual research dollars (includes UM - Jackson Med Center)
U.S. Naval Academy = 99 million in annual research dollars (undergraduate school focus)
Wichita State University = 59 million in annual research dollars
University of Memphis = 56 million in annual research dollars
Southern Methodist University = 32 million in annual research dollars
East Carolina University = 30 million in annual research dollars
University of Tulsa = 27 million in annual research dollars
Ole Miss is not going anywhere but they really do need to boost their academics and not include the Jackson Campus in their numbers. Even Alabama separates research between Birmingham, Huntsville, and Tuscaloosa.

AAC has Connecticut, Cincinnati, Temple, and Memphis. While they should do well, not sure I would go so far to say they would wreck it.

Ole Miss- Memphis would become one hell of rivalry across football and basketball. It's intense now bit that would become a nationally recognized rivalry.
