To my knowledge, Steele hasn't catastrophically failed as a HC anywhere before.
your knowledge doesn't extend very far

Not if you are University of South Alabama or Troy. He would be pretty decent for them.

He won them a National Title. HCs that go undefeated in the SEC, beat Bama and win a natty are not bad hires. He literally accomplished the exact goal he was hired to achieve.

People are going to laugh but

Pete Carroll at USC was a horrible hire on paper when it happened. Losing record as a HC, stuttered in speeches, didn’t seem to fit the culture, etc. Look what happened there.

Well, Chizik looked like the worst hire on paper and he won a NC there. So I’ll reserve judgment.

Bert, you don't know much. Steele was terrible at Baylor.

O was terrible at Ole miss but showed some spunk at USC and LSU when taking over. it was still a bad hire on paper

Comprehension of concepts isn’t your thing I see. I said ON PAPER.... that’s how it looks at the time of the hire.

It’s pretty common for the hot name coach to shite the bed.

I kinda feel like the majority of the SEC schools are just throwing in the towel at this point and waiting until Saban retires to try and be competitive again.

South Carolina hires Shane Beamer?
Auburn hiring Kevin Steele?
Pruitt is one year away from getting canned

These hires are a clear signal that they're waving the white flag. Arkansas look like geniuses now for what they did and provide the model for the future of college football.

Hire a head coach who is personable and can recruit and surround that coach with top-tier coordinators. That's the formula right now.

He'd be bad for them too.

Fair. Not sure if far worse but definitively looked at the time like a head scratcher.

Not sure about that, but there have been two Muschamp buyouts in this league since Saban arrived.
