Kiffin: left them hanging with sanctions on the way. Was a major talker and a walker (right out the doors of Neyland)

Disagree with this one. A man that leads a team to an undefeated season in the SEC can't be on this list.

The 1998 Auburn squad was the true state of a Terry Bowden program. It just took some dedicated work by The Mildly Retarded One to rip the heart, soul, and guts out of the Auburn program to make it his 3-8 own.

he did get State to a bowl game in 2007, which they hadn't seen since 2000.

Ellis Johnson was the reason State got to a bowl game that year, it wasn't because of Croom.

really? you should ask some of the arkansas and tennessee fans their opinions on Nutt and Kiffin (respectively). And I'll give you that Croom and Goff were good guys that just sucked arse at being a HC

+1

Johnson's defense forced turnovers and scored defensive TDs. If it wouldn't have been for his defense we would have lost to both Auburn and Bama that year. Croom's offense was horrendous.

Tater Tot alleged that Pat Dye undermined him at every turn... before Auburn paid him off and put a STFU clause in the settlement

Curley Hallman probably is the worst since 1980 in the SEC. Four seasons at an all-time top 15-20 program and no bowl appearances to show for it. He also had no sanctions to deal with unlike coaches such as Croom and Shula.

thank you. this contest is really between Hallman and Orgeron imo.

I could make a compelling case that anybody on this board could have coached the '05 team to as good if not better SEC record than Nutt did and I’m fairly sure that nobody on this board would have allowed 75 points to be given up in a single game. Now, laugh at that.

Maybe, maybe not. Now, how many points did Arky give up vs Auburn this year?It wasn't 75, but it was pretty close...
FWIW, that one game or year doesn't make him the worst coach in the SEC since 1980, in fact, pretty far from it. Blind hatred leads you to ignorance and makes you look like a fool once again. Surprise...

ETA: FWIW, I'm not even a huge Nutt fan and he has some work to do if he wants to stay in Oxford much longer, but the guy before him was 94793578947543975 times worse than him, and to say otherwise is extremely laughable...

Curley "led" LSU to a 16-28 record with 4 consecutive losing seasons at LSU from 1991-1994. During that 4 year Dark Age, LSU not only had 4 consecutive lsoing seasons but also had losing records in SEC play.

Also, in his last season, LSU lost to Auburn by squandering a 23-9 4th quarter lead by throwing 3 4th quarter pick 6s.

He got a bunch of lucky breaks one season

Ellis Johnson is the only reason Croom went to a bowl game. Croom was bad but I still have to go with Ed O. He had talent and still couldn't win.

***Just saw all the other Ellis Johnson replies.

bullshite.

Tater Tot threw out the pro-set offense and went to the 5-WR shotgun spread (putting Stephen Davis on the bench for a LOT of the game) because Tater Tot chose to do it.

Tater Tot chose to sign Diddy's F$U cast-offs and never-was's because Tater Tot chose to do it.

Tater Tot chose to make Back-Stabbin' Brother his defensive coordinator because Tater Tot chose to do it.

Tater Tot chose to permanently flush the Auburn running game down the toilet because Tater Tot chose to do it.

None of those things listed above had a damn thing to do with the Right Sainted Patrick Fain Dye.

And don't forget to raise a mug of a nice cold brew Thursday in honor of Saint Patrick (Dye)!

Auburn Go Bragh!

I won't vouch for Tator being a good coach... but it seems absolutely credible to me when he said he was unable to run his own football program because of Pat Dye's influence

I'm suprised he wasn't mentioned as a candidate before now. His SEC record was absolutely horrible. I know a lot of State fans give him a pass since he was a good QB at State in the 70's, but he was a bad head coach. Give me the 2004-2006 Croom led State teams any day over the 1988 "Tech and Ten" season.
