How do you think Croom would have done at Bama if he would have got the job over Mike Price????

I think he would have been a better recruiter over Mike Price, and a better manager of the program over Mike Shula. I don't think the "textbook scandal" would have been overlooked by compliance under Croom. Regardless, I don't think Croom would have ever beer better than a 8-10 win coach at Alabama. But that doesn't make him a bad coach.

This guy definitely has to be in the mix as well.

No rational LSU fan could put Dinardo above Curley Hallman on this list.

worst coaching job ever was LSU/Auburn 1994 where LSU threw 3 pick 6's in the 4th quarter to lose a 23-9 lead in the 4th quarter. Never seen anything close to this bad ever.

I know he put UK on probation, but he started the turn around that Guy Morris and Rich Brooks continued.

Mumme took over a team that was 9-24 the three years prior. He went 20-26 at UK. Not half bad.

Losing to teams like Maine, Tulane, Troy, and Louisiana Tech make him a VERY BAD coach IMO.

Yea he did pretty well, but it's overshadowed by the probation. It crippled our program for close to ten years. That's what most people remember from his tenure.

eta: That doesn't make him a bad coach, but Kentucky fans generally don't have a favorable opinion of him.

Nutt and it's not even close. Could any other coach go 2-6 in the SEC with a backfield of McFadden, Jones, and Hillis like Nutt did in '05 beating only the perennial cellar dwellers Ole Miss and State? Any coach would be hard pressed to do worse.

Nutt held Arkansas back for ten years, TEN YEARS, with his Mickey Mouse playbook and antics. Any success Arkansas had under Nutt was in spite of him not because of him.

Again. Decent coach that was at a program that takes a solid coach to run. I can't call him a terrible coach, considering what he inherited at Miss State. It didn't end well, but he did get State to a bowl game in 2007, which they hadn't seen since 2000.

I don't know how crooms isn't everyone's answer. Sure he came into a bad situation, but look at his record. He didn't even have a resume. He was hired because of the color of his skin and no one can change my mind of that. He got a bunch of lucky breaks one season and made it to his only bowl game in five years. The guy was just an absolute joke. Orgeron is a close 2nd for me.

Croom got Mississippi State to a bowl, which Curly Hallman was unable to do at LSU.

And it's not close really. I'd say Archer was worse than Dinardo. JD started from scratch and went to three straight bowls before he allowed the defense to fall apart. Archer turned a perrenial SEC contender into an also-ran because he could not recruit.

Croom went to a bowl. Orgeron did not. Orgeron is the correct answer.

How many freaking DL coaches get promoted immediately to an SEC HC.
