How many freaking DL coaches get promoted immediately to an SEC HC.

Mike Dubose basically did. He spent one year as DC in 1996. Then became head coach in 1997, after Stallings retired.

Croom was really bad, Orgeron was awful.

On second look Orgeron might take the cake, at least Croom had the fortune of winning a handful, okay a fingerful of good games, Orgeron was just all around bad; and damn that Hummer commercial was terrible.

I went with DuBose because while he may have won an SEC championship one season, every other year with him was a freakin' disaster, all the while we were on the fast lane to probation. Basically wrecking the program for about a decade. Hell, people bash Shula, and deservedly so, but it was DuBose fricking things up in the first place, that we ended up with guys like Price and Shula.

It's one thing to lose, it's another to sink a program while doing it.

Mike Price

He got caught hanging with strippers and got fired before coaching a single game. Hard to beat that.

Most LSU fans are aware that DiNardo actually got the LSU ball rolling again.

Obviously, Saban deserves the bulk of the credit for getting the program consistently back on the national map, but DiNardo deserves some credit too.

DiNardo isn't even close to being the worst coach in the SEC since 1980.

There is a big difference between being a bad football coach and being "human crap."

Curley Hallman

He wasn't just the worst, he was the dumbest. What does that say about Joe Dean.

I could make a compelling case that anybody on this board could have coached the '05 team to as good if not better SEC record than Nutt did and I’m fairly sure that nobody on this board would have allowed 75 points to be given up in a single game. Now, laugh at that.

Curley Hallman made Gerry Dinardo look like Coach Bear Bryant.

Curley was the worst LSU coach in any sport in my 57 years of life.

I cannot speak for the other SEC programs.

Hallman was much worse than Dinardo. Must have been a guy who wasn't alive or wasn't following LSU football back then

(btw i wasn't following LSU football in the early 90s either... didn't become a fan until the Dinardo years)

Disagree with this one. A man that leads a team to an undefeated season in the SEC can't be on this list.

worst coaching job ever was LSU/Auburn 1994 where LSU threw 3 pick 6's in the 4th quarter to lose a 23-9 lead in the 4th quarter. Never seen anything close to this bad ever.

I was there.

That day was frustrating as hell until the picks started coming fast and furious and Curley and Jamie just kept throwin' and throwin' and throwin'...

Curley Hallman probably is the worst since 1980 in the SEC. Four seasons at an all-time top 15-20 program and no bowl appearances to show for it. He also had no sanctions to deal with unlike coaches such as Croom and Shula.
