So you'd like to compare Aranda at 2 rent-a-win schools and Wisconsin to Chavis at LSU with arguable the best defensive roster in CFB?

It turns out the roster matters as much as the coordinator, as evidenced by the great Chavis' performance at A&M.

Boiled down, the point is that LSU has oscillates between good and great on defense and A&M continues to struggle for whatever reason. If Chavis is as good as you'd like to believe then A&M has much bigger issues that may not be solvable under the current regime.

Hoping with improvement in players the on field performance will improve

So did LSU. Again, I'm sorry you don't like your narrative getting shite on.

No after year 1. Maybe after year 2. Jury is still out.

Had you just said this I would have agreed. Instead, you got butthurt and tried to troll LSU.

No need to troll. That was what the OP was doing. I just gave the facts.

umlin has 9 years' worth of data as a head coach and consistently underperforms when he doesn't inherit a top-tier quarterback (or even upper-tier in the case of Trevor Knight)

We got one of the best DCs in the country, and they took a lazy has been off our hands. I'd say we are pretty thrilled.

This thread is a rehash of an old story. Remember when A&M fans were bragging bout "stealing" Chavis from LSU and saying that the days of LSU gashing the Aggie defense were over? Well, this is us still laughing at you.

TL:DR, A&M has gotten better and LSU has gotten worse. Basically what everyone expected in general.

Good, I hope A&M keeps Sumlin and Chavis.

If someone else on the staff will make a priority of recruiting the top defensive players, Chavis can scheme them.
Here and there A&M recruits great players, but not with consistency. Just not a priority for that program.

This thread really doesn't matter cause Chavis will be jobless after this year.

Sorry, but Chavis threads are immediately anchored on this board. At least, they used to be.

Is there any other DC in college football who has a three word identity that is recognized throughout a major conference? And beyond?

Chavis is a fine coach but no one will make them play tough hard nosed Defense. Is just not who they are. Gay traditions is more their thing.

I don't see why we can't have a rational discussion about A&M's defensive coordinator.

DBs improved but LBers (chiefs unit) are still shite. the defense as a whole has not improved enough and thats why you started this thread.

Thread seemed to be a legit question.

For the record, I'm glad Chavis left, I think it was smoke and mirrors at LSU.
My biggest takeaway regarding his defense here at LSU, is that he seemed to downsize most positions.
Got a good OLB, put him at DE.
Got a good SS, put him at linebacker.
Pull one of your linebackers, and put in a smallish nickelback instead, and run it as base.

That's fine to defend a pass-happy scheme (note LSU's success vs Manziel), but you run the risk of getting pushed in vs more power-based offenses (like Alabama, Miss St with Dak, etc). We're still trying to recover, there's just not a lot of upperclassmen with size. DBs for days, though.

Do you Aggies find he's doing the same thing over there- 220 lb linebackers, etc?

for as much as yall hate the longhorns, yall are basically dumbed down version of them which is funny cause you are actually an A&M school.

I think that's y'all, not us. I can honestly say I have little thought one way or the other about Texas. If we play them, it's interesting as a name matchup, but that's about it. I really don't notice what they're doing if they're not on schedule, unless they're playing for an NC, or cratering.
