So why the hell would ESPN want an all SEC matchup?

AU-OU 2nd lowest ratings of all time.

Probably played into their decision to knight for Bama/LSU

Contracts.

FOX showed their big12 bias big time in their coverage of the Cotton Bowl...

I have not once said they did this, was just talking about ratings and them being bad. A lot of this is it being on cable TV, that was a terrible decision. Just find it funny that people who say that changes don't need to be made are saying that the "BCS works" thinking that is what prompts changes. This is ALL about money and ratings

If you're old enough, I'd be willing to bet you were one of the masses hollering for ESPN and their love for the B1G and pac10 years ago and asking where is the sec love.

ESPN doesn't push a certain team anywhere. If they did, certainly they'd push a large market team. For the ratings you seem to be concerned about.

Except there really weren't any big market teams involved this year, but yea you are right, if anything ESPN will push the large market to drive up ratings, don't think they push anyone as much as people seem to think though

ESPN is incredibly influential and I totally agree with you that they want the current BCS Model changed. Each team in the National Championship will be from a different conference and will be the conference champion. The Big 12 and Big 10 will finally listen to Mike Slive (SEC Commissioner) who suggested this back in '08. Things are about to change. The SEC will still be dominant but the rest of the country at least wants another conference to have a shot at the NC every year.

Put the game on ABC...you don't have these ratings. There is also a national backlash against SEC dominance right now though.

Make a rule that both teams in a BCSNC can't come from the same conference.

Fixed.

After this NC, no one will ever want to see a rematch from the regular season again.

my understanding IS the game was the SECOND HIGHEST RATED CABLE show of all time behind last year's BCS Championship...

and the game was the third lowest rated BCS championship game behind a nebraska - miami and southern cal - oklahoma!

put the game on your sister station ABC

our cable bill is approximately $90 / monthly - cable and its executives deserve a kick in the balls

the low ratings rant is bullshite all things considered

Not necessarily true that rule or the has to win the Conference title fixes it...i.e. FSU (ACC) v. UF (SEC)1996...FSU won the regular season (Nov. 1996) and then got our arses handed to us in the Sugar Bowl two months later in the Sugar Bowl (Jan. 1997) giving UF the National Championship...and we still play every year so yes, a rematch could still happen again even with those rules in place...

Even with those 2 rules and a +1 or even a larger playoff tourney a rematch could still happen...
