This is true at some SEC schools.

My whole point is there is no Big 3.

there is Football & Men's basketball that make a profit ... and then everything else is the same for the most part.

Again, historically, there are 3 main sports in America.

Hence, "Big 3."

Football is king, but kids in this country aspire to make it in one of 3 sports. Football, Basketball, and Baseball.

Participation numbers will always fluctuate. The NFL is doing a damn good job of trying to kill its product right now, and I believe that it will have an effect on ratings eventually. Hell, there were countless regular season games with not even a half-full stadium. Other factors also contribute.

Soccer is just not quintessentially, "American." It requires too much understanding of nuance and patience for the average American. Baseball still has the home-run.

There are 3 relevant sports in America, one of those being America's pastime. But now we're arguing semantics, which is all this thread was going to be anyways.

Now, "college" baseball can be said to be a shitty product for a myriad of reasons - the main one being that all the top talent is sequestered after high school by the minor leagues. But I contend that there is not a more enjoyable sporting event to attend as a fan than a high stakes college baseball game at a place that truly cares about baseball. That is my opinion, however.

Top half -> Vandy, LSU, SC, FL, Ark, OM, MSST

-7

1979

Many teams have never made it to the CWS
Just because we don't have a National title doesn't make us irrelevant...
Powerhouse teams like FSU still haven't won a National title

Relevant teams stay CONSISTANT (key word)

Your opinion that there are 3 big sports to you is valid, there is just not 3 big college sports to the majority of everyone else. That is the point.

And when some fans like to post threads such as "most championships in Big 3". Where as the ones in baseball are no Mir important than those in golf or track or any other little sports.

Baseball in general just doesn't translate well to television, college and MLB. It can be very difficult to watch, especially with the offense killing bats/balls.

This x1000.

I don't think I've ever watched a baseball game my entire life in total on TV. EVER.

But I've been to 100's and love them in person. It is just weird.

If you look at trends in youth sports. Of the youth that play ( beginner leagues to high school). Of the youth that play sports , 40% choose football and/or Basketball, while baseball is down to 24% and soccer is up to 20% ( stats from ESPN article July 2013) More than likey baseball and soccer are even closer today.

This is what I don't get.

You can make a shitload of money playing baseball and don't suffer lasting injuries as much as other sports, but for some reason kids aren't playing it as much.

I think there are a lot of intelligent kids that play baseball nowadays, for these reasons among others, and that it helps schools like Vandy & Virginia field championship level teams.

BTW LSU baseball outdraws women's basketball on average. Not by my much, mind you...

Actually it is by much if you're talking strictly LSU WBB. Baseball easily outdraws WBB per game 2-1 most years.

The CWS went from one of my favorite sporting events, to something I can't even watch. Sad.

This. The NCAA ruined that special time every June. If LSU was there are not it was a special sporting event.

Most people who's allegiance is tied to revenue-producing College baseball teams consider baseball as a much greater commodity than non-revenue sports, i.e. golf swimming, Lacrosse.

Change "Many" to Most and I totally agree.

I agree with this.

But since we're talking about it...college baseball is terrible. I think it goes to the lack of overall skill of the guys playing it, the substitute equipment compared to it's parent iteration, and it's really bizarre fanbase.

Baseball provides the best opportunity for above-average athletes to play through high school. You can teach fielding position, transition, throwing motion, batting stance and swing...but you can't teach height, weight, and speed. I've seen many kids become excellent baseball players purely on their desire to be good. Those are typically the kids that invest significant hours (of their time) in batting cages and with pitching coaches.

I coach both (youth) football & baseball and have had some great football players try out for our select baseball team over the years. I'm talking about young kids that you watch play football and immediately think that they project up to college. They are bigger, stronger, and faster than every other kid out there and can dominate on pure athletic ability.

When it comes to baseball, without practice, they have almost no chance of hitting an above average pitcher who throws a decent fastball, change, and curve. That is exactly why they quit before they get started. They can't dominate (as they are used to in FB & BB) without significant practice over an extended amount of time.

That is why I like baseball and could care less who doesn't. I'm sure it is boring to someone who doesn't understand the strategy behind the game.

Where do you idiots come from? The term "Big 3" comes from professional sports and is also applied to College sports by the media

This is the first mostly non-troll post I recall you ever making. What's up with that?

Someday you're really going to have to own up to what the Aggies did to you. Inquiring minds want to know. Help is available.

Amen!

I played each of the big three through high school and excelled more at baseball for the reasons you mentioned. I prefer college sports to professional sports any day and that includes baseball, even though it's not as exciting as it used to be. I couldn't give a rat's arse about MLB and frequently turn down Angels and Dodgers tickets. I just find it boring. Maybe the lack of skill being cited by some is what I find more exciting about college baseball. In MLB, it's typically obvious what's going to happen as soon as the ball leaves the bat.

I am puzzled as to why some care what I and other college baseball fans may find entertaining. It's OK with me if you want to watch soccer, golf, badminton, etc.
