The game has evolved to where you just don't see a body like that move like that anymore.
I think it's more that defensive players are stronger/faster as well and you don't have the physical mismatches that you used to see.

Will there every be another Bo Jackson, Marcus Dupree, Herschel Walker, Barry Sanders, etc?
Depends. Seems like a lot of rules are taking the hard hits out of the game.

Not saying Chubb is going to be the next Herschel but he looks pretty similar to me...
Yeah..but my main point was more about the other players on the field more so than the individual RBs. Linebackers and hell most DL back then were Herschel's size, and he was faster than any RB/WR/CB on the field. Even if Chubb has a similar frame, he isn't physically the man amongst boys these days that those other RBs were.

Reggie Bush did it. Darren Mcfadden did it. Melvin Gordon is doing it.

I think we've had a few, but I think Herschel Walker set the new standard and nobody has really surpassed him .... and until somebody clearly does .... he remains the standard.
Barry Sanders set the standard after Walker. Sanders clearly passed Walker and had the greatest college season of all time.

For a season, yes. Nobody will ever touch barry's 88 season, it's almost unthinkable for someone to even come close.
But when you talk overall player? Career..body of work? Don't be silly. If Barry was the GOAT he wouldn't have rode the bench for so long. Herschel is the greatest and there really isn't much debate.

So, because prior to his Junior year Sanders was playing behind an upperclassman who was a 2 time All-American and a future NFL Hall of Famer he isn't the greatest? What is the topic about? Seeing a running back take over a game(s). It isn't like Sanders did it for one game.

I would argue that I have seen Nick Chubb take over at least 4 games this season.

No. Herschel walker > Bo
Dupree > everyone.

Forget that he just went for 113 yards against the NFL's best run defense, my Denver Broncos.

Don't forget he played in a HS gimmick offense.

I think the game goes in cycles. Defenses were bulking up to stop pro style offenses and a stud RB. Then the speed of the spread game started running circles around them. I think you will see defenses start slimming down a little to be more speedy then the offense will head back to the power back and you will see them take over the game again.
On the money, except more speed will always be the goal for linebackers and d-backs.

FWIW... in 1980 Notre Dame had a once in a decade "D". They were considered huge for the day...
LE...6'4" 245lb
LT...6'4" 246lb
RT...6'4" 251lb
RE...6'5" 245lb
OLB..6'2" 218lb
MLB..6'3" 222lb
OLB..6'2" 208lb
Herschel was 6'1" 225lb as a freshman...

For all of you throwing out McFadden, lattimore, and the Wisconsin dude.... do you think they'll be making 30 for 30's (or similar shows) about those guys 30 years after they played?
And it's not takeover "a" game it's "the" game like the game of football.

quote:Let's keep in mind that one could easily argue that Alabama running backs played in a "system" that helped them succeed in college...because, honestly, Trent Richardon, Mark Ingram and Glen Coffee are or were busts in the NFL. Eddie Lacy is the only one that has amounted to anything thus far.
Don't forget he played in a HS gimmick offense.
