We have a Robert E. Lee High School here in Alabama. I don't think they should change the name.

They were in our division. Only team we beat every year when I was in High School. I feel like all of the schools in Alabama named after confederate generals are black schools

ETA: Or at least all of the ones we played.

Explain "State's Rights". I love when people use that term.

The southern state's believed that the Central US government was given authority over a few things (national military, currency, etc) and that the rest of the laws were to be determined at the state level.

In addition to the issue of the southern states wanting to keep slaves, was the issue of trade. The US government instituted a series of trade tariffs in the early 1800s that hurt the southern state's ability to export goods. A few of the state's declared these to be null as they believed was the State's right. Jackson sent the Navy down to enforce the tariff and thus began the catalyst for the Civil War.

You are not alone. I always laughed at the irony when we played them.

I got called a bigot on the Poli Board for being in favor of letting states make their own laws.

If the south had won, I wouldn't have to deal with the media arse kissing fest of Odumbass

Plus, IF the south had won, I'm pretty sure that slavery would have ended up being abolished anyway

Slavery was about to end regardless of who won the war, it is ridiculous that people have been convinced from an early age that slavery was the only thing that caused the war.

I agree with all of this.

I love how everyone assumes that because some of us support the south and the state's rights argument, we are all racist.

I believe slavery is wrong and that the south was wrong in that respect. I still support state's rights and believe the Union was wrong for declaring war (frick you Lincoln).

How people cannot grasp this concept is beyond me.

Seems like A LOT of people down south HATE him on a personal level. They hate the guy with a passion. People said they've never seen so much hate towards one guy since JFK, MLK, and LBJ, I wonder why. It seems to come from deep south states.

I can tell you're trying to insinuate that Obama haters are racist. It has nothing to do with him being HALF BLACK. But it has everything to do with him being a narcissistic, lying terrorist who has driven this country into $16 trillion in debt.

FIFY. And it comes from the south because we are very conservative and don't like our government increasing taxes and creating more needless social programs.
