Probably Steve Spurrier in 1990 at Florida. Or Les Miles at LSU.

The Florida roster was stocked by cheating, but after one year, Spurrier began dominating after he had cold-stone stopped the cheating.

Les followed Saban, enough said.

Thank God.

I was afraid you'd go out and hire a good one.

No, because the #1 team in the country is in your division and brings their A-game for that matchup every year

He was good enough to hold the tide scoreless for 3+ quarters.

Let's see what happens with first rate OC and new and improved Oline.

Whoever takes over at Alabama after Saban retires and it's not even close.

His TEAM was good enough to hold the Tide scoreless for 3+ quarters. His team is very talented. So was Larry Coker's in his first few years at Miami.

Bama was in horrendous shape 2 years before Bear left. When Dye came in he PREACHED that Bear was out the door and folks listened. Dye signed every blue chipper in the state and Perkins came in with an empty cupboard.

LSU is in good shape. I know it's not the SEC but Switzer taking over for Fairbanks, Osbourne taking over for Devaney would be the best I've ever seen.
Miles taking over from Saban would be there in the SEC. That may have been the best situation we've seen in a while.

True. The ranking wasn't as high as this years will be, but the program was freaking primed

LSU was pre-season #5 in 2005.

Miles stepped into one of the best situations ever.

Have any of the other schools welcomed a new coach with a top 10 team?

Yes, several. Contrary to corndog folklore, they play football outside the state of Louisiana. In fact, they do it better in a number of those places, too.

Bama was ok when the Bear left, but not top 10

Started the 1983 season ranked #14, were ranked #3 in October when we lost at Penn State. So, pretty close.

Miles situation wasn't too shabby in 2005.
