Ole Miss fans are depressing. At least I am always confident and optimpoto about our football program. Dun Meffin has us trending upwards.

But if we continue to recruit at a high level, which i think we are capable of, it can change. Freeze needs to grow as a head coach and learn not to panic when he can't get the run game up the middle going.

I think all OM is doing is recruiting itself into the middle of the pack- same as State

Wouldn't you say a team that shows it's capable to recruit elite talent and beat top 10 teams is on the brink? It shows we're capable. We just have to find someone to sustain it. I think Freeze can sustain recruiting success.

you've been on the "brink" several times, but Ole Miss has never done it with any consistency. Having one good recruiting class doesn't show me Ole Miss is capable of sustaining that. And they still have only had one 10 win season since 1962. Maybe you're more optimistic than I am, but until Ole Miss shows it can do it, I'll reserve any expectations they can. Ole Miss had a golden opportunity to win 10 games this year after beating LSU, but in typical Ole Miss fashion, they lost their last two games of the season to finish 7-5. Like i said earlier ITT, Ole Miss hasn't beaten LSU, Alabama, and Auburn in the same season I think ever. Even in their undefeated season in 1962, the didn't play Auburn or Alabama

the talent level is definitely improving... if the OL gets better and they find a between the tackles RB, OM's offense will be very good.

Freeze's next QB is extremely important... wallace is was he is at this point... but the next guy in 2015 could take them to the next level.

Yet. Did anyone think we'd get Tunsil this time last year?

It's more than that and I don't want to be ignorant as to the affect that injuries had on our team this year. We just looked bad in some games. Scary bad.

I'm just celebrating Meltmas until we get that good recruiting news later on today.

I appreciate the optimism but I'm trying to stay objective. We are getting spanked by everyone on the trail right now. Settling for average juco guys at serious positions of need is really unsettling. I have faith that the staff CAN do better but WILL they this year? Idk

Define good. Mixing 5-8 win seasons with one or two 9 and 10 win seasons a decade? Sure.

Consistently competing for the SEC west? No. Mississippi has some disadvantages not shared by the rest of the conference. Auburn and Alabama have good sized student bodies and a state, that for its problems, seems to be trending upward. Auburn has good ties to Georgia and both schools are shaking off some of the traditional Alabama reputation as being sports-only. LSU has a state to itself and a major city that loves it. UGA does too in large part, and the school has blown up in size.

Meanwhile, you have Ole Miss, in a stagnant small state, sharing talent with another school, located in a small town. You don't have a booming area to feed it, although Memphis will always be there.

Ole Miss has great tradition and does what it can despite being heavily outgunned. But in reality, to compete with the rest of the conference on a regular basis, I think you'd need some pretty serious cultural changes at both OM and in the state generally. To be honest, I think the tradition will ultimately hold Ole Miss back from doing what other schools on the rise are doing.
