Not sure, Les is one of the best cheaters out there...but he is also a complete dumbass. A really really dumb man. Just too tough to call with any degree of confidence imo.

It's also true that historically every successful program has ups and downs. Just look at Alabama in the mid-late 80s and the late 90s and early 2000s. LSU in the 80s and 90s.

Ahem. In the 1980s, LSU had 7 winning seasons, went to 6 bowls games, had 3 Top 10 teams and 6 top 25 teams.
Even in the 1990s, LSU won 26 games and 3 straight bowl wins from 1995-97.

Before Saban came to Baton Rouge, LSU was 12th all-time in # of victories, and 10th in bowls.
Today, LSU is 11th in victories and 8th in bowls, and is the winningest team in the last 8 years and 2nd winningest in the last 13.

We've had an idiot like Les in charge since '05, and we've averaged 11 wins a season. So, it's reasonable to say that if we hire just an average coach, we'll probably win 12-13 games a season.

There was no football at LSU before 2000.

Anybody can win at LSU, because we're the only big school in the state. All the best in-state recruits come here automatically. Any coach in the country can win 11 games a year here.

Yea the 80's and 90's were awesome. I think the aforementioned statement is the dumbest thing that our fans come up with. Yes LSU is in a great position, but really? We sucked the big one for multiple decades. No school can automatically win 11 games a year. In fact, Miles is the only coach to average close to 11 wins per year.

LSU has had teams voted National Champion by different polls, rankings, indexes, publications, associations, etc. in 6 different decades:
1900's (1908), 1930's (1935, 1936), 1950's (1958),
1960's (1961,1962), 2000's (2003, 2007), and 2010's (2011).
LSU has gone to NYD bowls and had Top 10 teams in every decade but the 1890's and 1920's.

AGAIN:
LSU was #12 in number of all-time victories and #10 in bowl appearances, """"""BEFORE""""" Saban.

Please tell me where we were on the national stage of college football before Saban got here.

From 1980-1999, LSU ended the season unranked in the Coaches Poll 12 times. 12.

Seems to be a common sentiment that Alabama will trail off once Saban leaves. If that's true, then if Miles leaves, does LSU trail off as well?

Miles isn't leaving unless a scandal breaks out.
LSU and Bama are both subject to the quality of the coaches like the rest of us, unfortunately for the SEC West, it appears they will both be around for a long time.

The better question is will A&M's program fizzle and regress to the mean without Manziel?

They've been without him for one half and only led Rice by 7 at half time. Let that sink in.

also, I assume Sumlin is smart enough to use Manziel to propel him to an NFL job and not stick around for the return to the Sherman years.

I think that LSU is in such s aplace where we are really build on local talent, and as along as we get someone who can tap into that well be good. Always been the case.

Bama is at such a high level that even with a good coach it will be almost impossible to do what Saban has been doing.
