There's simply not the difference folks think there is - the main advantage to attending an Ivy or faux Ivy are the connections you can make.
Years ago Harvard Business School did a study about income related to schools and specifically the "Harvard Advantage."
The study concluded there was no difference. Salaries and future success were more closely correlated to ACT score of incoming students. To the extent that every school has high ACT students, their incomes were no different. There was one exception. Black students from low income families areas benefitted from a Harvard education more than their ACT scores would have suggested. The conclusion was that networking at Harvard benefitted a poor minority student disproportionately.
But, and this needs to be said, certain schools (like Harvard) that are more selective will admit more high-ACT students, hence higher AVERAGE incomes.
But cream will rise to the top, no matter what school a student attends.

And as a Bulldog, I will tell you your statement is full of shite.
Perhaps Harvard is the Ole Miss of the North.
Having said that, HailState

If you really want an answer to that, you'd have to understand the history of th e University.
During orientation we were taught that "Harvard of the South" referred to the status of the University's collection of historical artwork which then only rivaled that of Harvard's.
LINK /
Prior to this the University was in route to receive the most powerful telescope in America (before it got redirected to Northwestern due to the outbreak of the Civil War).

But they did also mention the Harvard red and Yale blue, to your credit.
Meanwhile at State, the ag boys were fixing tractors. Fail State

You do realize what people in the private sector think about teachers?
I'm not a 'teacher' and if you truly don't know the difference you should send back the degree whatever institution of higher learning may or may not have granted you.
As for the private sector, I'm quite versed in that and I'd bet a great deal of cash I've been involved far longer than you given that I've been a part of it since I was a small child. My family has owned a private sector business dealing with major manufacturers for as long as I've been on this planet. Everyone from GE to Auto Manufacturers and everything in between. I've also participated/worked this business which is quite lucrative.
I don't like pulling any of these cards but when you insist on being an arse you get what you deserve. That said, the private sector often but not always thinks too well of itself in many fields - moneymaking doesn't equate to smarts anymore than what university you happen to attend. A business degree, even among those in business is a joke these days.
And you do realize what I and many others think of flaming idiots?

the true elites of America who go to Harvard
Yeah, that's a pretty common perception. But in fact, over half of Harvard's undergrads are there on need-based financial aid, and it's been that way for decades.
Btw, this whole thread is stupid.

Hit a nerve you thin skinned douche? Universities are packed with lazy, arrogant assholes who couldn't keep a job at McDonald's. There are a few good ones, but few and far between. I have a feeling I know which category of "teacher" you fit into.

There are only two other schools outside of the Ivy League in America that can be compared to Harvard, and those two schools are Duke and Stanford.
Lol Duke is not as prestigious outside of the south as some of you want to believe. HYP are the holy trinity followed closely by Stanford, Columbia, Chicago, MIT. Then it's schools like Northwestern, Georgetown, Duke, Berkeley, and the other Ivies. And that's just for undergrads.
Grad programs are what truly matter, and Harvard, Stanford, Chicago, Columbia, and Berkeley are really the cream of the crop. Almost all of their grad programs are near the top of their fields.

It's obviously a stuck up and funny thing. None of use truly believe it haha. And it's more just to piss off other people. Obviously like it has the OP

I agree prestige wise. But in actuality all of those schools have the exact same companies recruit at them and if you're an Allstar at Duke you are going to do just as well as an allstar at Harvard if all things are equal background wise.

This post may have been more useful in the 1990s.
Haven't heard the phrase since then.

I thought of one similarity between Harvard and OM fans: When I was there, win or lose, we taunted the Yalies that they had to go back to the dump that is New Haven (and Dartmouth to Hanover). Just like OM fans taunt clangers about Starktown.
So there's that.
So there's that.
