That's the whole point dude. The joke's on them.
Now shut the hell up about it before they figure out that we're making fun of them when we say that.

I thought Harvard was the Ole Miss of the North? You know, full of rich kids and living in the past.

I tell you true.. I've taught Harvard students, Vandy students and public uni students -- there's just no difference. Mediocre, Dumb, and Smart is the standard mix among all. Private school students tend to have an educational advantage (far more subjects offered at their K-12 schools) but no group is smarter. They also tend to have mega-tutoring/classes that help their scores (a big part of ratings). I will say the dumb asses of the public unis appear to be dumber than the private school students but the mediocre and smartest section is the same in terms of intelligence.
Also, no one in academia goes by rankings done by pop magazines (we know full well how to fix them and private schools will always have an advantage), we go by other measures, including peer knowledge.
Again all of these are great schools but rankings will make just about anyone inside the system giggle - those are for selling mags as well as parents and potential students.
There's simply not the difference folks think there is - the main advantage to attending an Ivy or faux Ivy are the connections you can make.

Ole Miss student body isn't wealthier than State's. In fact, family income, its in the lower end of the SEC.
They just attract a certain highly visible determined type of douchebag in larger than average numbers.

I did my graduate work at Duke and can promise you there is nothing southern about that school. Its mostly Northeast prep school kids who didn't get into Harvard mixed in with extremely book smart asians and indians.
Its also not in the Harvard/Yale/Princeton tier in terms of prestige, but still comparable to the 2nd tier Ivy schools like Brown/Cornell/Columbia/Dartmouth.
Two biggest negatives IMO were the fact that it was a total wasteland in terms of the girls you'd see around campus (a 6 in ttown would've been a 9 in Durham) and football doesn't even exist as far as they're concerned.

Well, that seems to not be the case anymore
Actually, considering the grade inflation during the Vietnam era at Harvard, the 'fake class' scandals might actually bump UNC to the top of the list.
