I was a very active Gene's Page sheep in 2001. We had won the West in '98, had a 10-win season in '99, had beaten Auburn 4 straight and Bama 3 out of 4 and had a senior laden team and Wayne Madkin coming back. The year prior, we had smoked Florida. We were preseason top 15 and picked by many to win the West.
Steve had an article where he basically picked us to run the table. It was the most glorious homerish thing you can imagine, but it was backed up and those of us who had drank the Koolaid bought it.
Onviously, everything fell apart. The team was 3-8, but 5 losses were one score. That team wasn't as bad as the record states, but there was so much locker room turmoil.
Anyway, a certain group of State fans (not Ole Miss fans as the article stated) started calling him Rosebowl Robertson. I was banned from Genespage for it. A couple years later, after the Arizona Western fiasco and a 2-10 season, the MSU online community started splitting. Pretty much the Rosebowl Group went on to Sixpack and the sheep stayed with Gene.

If you are the OM compliance department, apparently it takes a shite ton of skill considering this has been going on for years on a university phone and they just found "a pattern" once someone else pointed it out.

This. Around 2002 on eggbowl.com, a poster I cannot remember dropped the Steve Rosebowl name and the sixpack group(I plead the 5th of being a part of) which started posting some on the rivals board before starting the sixpack board was using it. It was the sixpack board that used it mainly and at the time Nafoom started up up, they picked up on it too b/c sixpack and nafoom posters got along for the first couple of years.

Clearly I am not a good enough fan. I just watch the games and follow the team, recruiting, etc. I don't feel like I know near enough of the palace intrigue that seems to go on amongst hardcore fans.

Just to finish the MSU internet fan history lesson with the most recent split:
Elitedawgs was formed by the most anti-Ole Miss MSU fans. They were pissed at Sixpack admins for being friendly with reasonable Ole Miss fans.
So to recap:
Gene's Page: Sheep
Six Pack: Realists
EliteDawgs: Hardcore
Of course all State fans are defined by the latter group, even though there are only about 50 active posters on that board.

Spot on, imo.
I read all of those, tRant, OM Spirit and Nafoom. ED is the only site where I'm not registered.
Nafoom used to be my favorite place but it's turned into the most bitter and delusional. The OM Spirit has a large percentage of reasonable posters, but they're drowned out by the fanatics and censored by Chuck and Yancy and Ben. It's scary how quickly reasonable opinions are deleted on that site

I stumbled across Genes page around 99ish. It was a true bulletin message board before he went to scout. He would drop skuttlebutt information. Around 2002-3, the sunshine police on gene's page kept banning us for berating Jackie, Larry Templeton, tonka, etc.
We had to post on Rivals board but around march 2003, I was invited to join sixpack before the "it" happened. The rest is history.
Ole Miss rivals site had a board called eggbowl.com. It was pretty bad with hate and vitriol but it was controlled by an ole miss guy so it was one sided. He eventually had to shut it down because ole miss posters started posting personal info of posters and places of employment.
Old message board days you had some posters that were trolls before they were even called trolls.
