Anyone calling out Coach Spurrier has never walked in his shoes or been in a situation like his. When there are not even fumes in the tank, tough to move a car, a coach or a CEO. I can promise you there is not a single person who feels worse about this decision than him.

Dude you really might want to STFU. He's been a damn good coach and around the game for a longer time than you could spell football. If the man says he can't help the team any longer and wants to defer why would any sad sack that doesn't have anything to do with SC football care. I'd be willing to bet the players understand and respect his decision

You breathe through you mouth alot don't you. Obviously Spurrier was not your coach because he would have taught you how not to be a whining bitch.
Spurrier has earned the right to drop his pants and doggie slide across the field on his arse. Seriously, who the fvck are you to even talk about his character? Some washed up rent a cop former linemen trying to be relevant?

He did it for the betterment of the program. It's much easier to start the coaching search NOW than it is in December.
Nothing is bettered by the quitting. The search could start now quitting or not, but its midseason, and they arent hiring any current coach from another school.

Sounds like you made this up.

OP, let me ask you an honest question.
and let me preface this with i know your likely response of "its not the same thing", when in actuality it kinda is - just on a different level.
you mention Petrino in your OP (which if your gonna use him as an example, for the love of god spell the name right). when he up and bailed on the Falcons to go to Louisville, did you make a post on how much of a bitch move it was? did you remark on the forums about how cowardly it was? how he was a Quitter for leaving the NFL like he did?
I will wait to see if you answer with something other than an insult and a "its not the same" reply.

Most people have been in situations which were tough and quitting would be the easy way out. He doesnt have to deal with the direct pain and frustration of more losses, but his kids all do because they didnt quit.

It's not. It's just a convenient excuse to use.

His presence isn't helping the team. They're 2-4. He's responsible but as the head coach no one calls in a sub for him, as he would do if his QB wasn't getting it done.
At the pace they're on, they won't be bowl eligible, they'll have a losing season, recruits will bail and so forth.
Go ask FSU fans and Vol fans how it affects a program for a long time coach to hold on and hold on and hold on and fight leaving while wins get fewer, blowout losses become common and recruits start to bail.
If you can't figure this out on your own you're either riding the short bus or just too butt hurt from Spurrier beating the hell out of Georgia so long when he was at UF.

Same can be said of every other coach on the team including the interim head coach. Should they all quit? With or without him, they arent going to a bowl. This isnt a situation like Fulmer and Bowden either.
I knew Spurrier wouldnt put up with losing a ton, and I did expect him to retire AFTER the season as any respectable man would do. What I didnt expect was quitting, and quitting is teaching a bad lesson to the young men on the team.

I'm actually with you.
I've never had the reverence for him like most, but thought he was a solid guy. However, this is a shitty move no doubt about it. Unless of course it's health related, which it doesn't appear to be.
I obviously see where South Carolina fans don't give a shite since they aren't playing good football and want change, but if I was a player on the team id Be pissed.

Typical modern day mob mentality. We have to have somebody to stone.
Steve Spurrier has put in his time. What he brought to the SEC and cfb far outweighs any perception of "quitting."
People lack perspective. They criticize a man for quitting when he has accomplished more than 100% of those criticizing.
Good for him for recognizing it was time and not pulling a Bobby Bowden and making it awkward.

Florida was very difficult to stop when they ran the ball.

I think the move is great because he was man enough to realize he wasn't the best for the job and move on. If he says he will finish out the year then the attention immediately goes to him for the rest of the year. I think the move was the best thing for USC because this season is lost and they can just focus on getting a new coach.
