There will be more coming out in the coming months as to why he retired unfortunately (if his family chooses that route)

I see your argument, but you could also argue that he truly believed the program would be in better hands if he stepped away.

bc thats just not how sports teams work.... teams are built on principles of brotherhood, family, and unity. He can't just leave them when he realizes its going to be a terrible year for that team.

think about the players he recruited... put yourself in their shoes... at one point Spurrier was in these kids homes telling them "come play for me..fight for our team and i will fight for you" and the 5 games in he just quits... pretty shitty

how is anyone here going to "call out" steve spurrier? what would that look like? what would that do?

1. no one here can call anyone out because frankly, no one here matters in the world steve spurrier inhabits

2. he's steve spurrier, if there's one thing that he's made clear, it's that he doesn't give a shite what anyone thinks about him

3. he's been retired for some time. he made it clear to them he likes to golf and isn't going to be some obsessive crazy person. He golfs at augusta and goes to sleep at a decent hour...and he's 70.

4. steve spurrier has the kind of record where it doesn't matter how he leaves...he's steve spurrier.

Augusta National C.C. closes for member play in late spring & re-opens this Saturday for fall play. Makes sense to me...

Exactly what I said this morning and everyone gave me shite for it. There are a few of us on here that realize he is a quitter but not many.

he was such a great character. it hasn't been the same because he coaches a mediocre to suck arse team, but when he was killing everyone at florida, running up the score...making no bones about it, talking shite, and was on top of the world

anyone here who is old enough to have hated him...hated him

he was such a cocksucker, but in a pretty awesome way. people forget that he's been humbled to a degree since failing in the NFL, but he was the biggest ego in CFB at florida, but he backed every bit of it up.

He's never been a good loser and that's what made him a great coach. It also made him a quitter today.

Dude, I get what you are saying. There is more to it than "well f*ck, our team sucks so I'm gonna run away". Maybe there are health problems he is dealing with.

Personally, I think he should've approached it a bit better but if it's something we are all currently guessing about, I can't blame him for it.

either you're like 15 or your arse is still red from that 59-3 beatdown.

he's 70...he's really old. south Carolina moved up in the world under spurrier. they should be kissing his furry bean bag as he walks away.

I agree ... and to make it worse, he clarified in the presser that he is NOT retiring but RESIGNING from his current position

If you truly love something and you know your no good for it you'll walk away. He let the game get away from him and he realized he's no good to the program right now. By stepping Down he gave other coaches a chance to step up. Plus USCe can look openly for a new coach.

yeah, I don't know anything about anyone in the NFL or college and don't pretend to, I used the word "character" very deliberately
