sorry, the "we have definitely not played up to the level that we were suppose to be" was pertaining to Auburn, note the name.

Because they want to do everything they can to make sure an SEC team with one loss does not make it in the National Championship, so OHIO State can have a chance. So they can say the Big 10 is equal to the SEC. By saying the SEC is down means the strength of schedule could get hurt by the propaganda.
Name the last time an SEC team made it to the NC and did not win. All the Big 10 homers at ESPN are just vocalizing their usual bias.

There is definitely s certain SEC school that legitimized that program in the media's eyes.
Utah was the orignial "BCS buster". And they got to a BCS bowl under the old system.
Aren't they going to be Pac-10 next year? I think that's a new rule... if you beat an SEC team in a BCS bowl, you are not allowed to stay in a non-BCS conference.

Is the media right or is this board right?
Was the SEC down last year even though an SEC Team won the National Championship?
What about in 08?
SEC could be down, in OOC against BCS schools SEC is 4-2 so far with losses by Vanderbilt/Tennessee.
They are 3-0 Against ACC (North Carolina, Clemson, Duke)
They are 1-1 against Big 10 (Northwestern/Penn State)
They are 0-1 against Pac 10
of course very small sample size, none of this matters anyway because if an SEC takes care of business they play for a National Title

It's true that the teams haven't all looked as good as in the past, but I haven't seen anybody in any other conference that really looked good either.

1)Kiffie Poo's not there.
2)Hootie's hype is officially on hold.
3)Timmie's in the NFL.
4)They like hearing themselves say, "Bowyizee State".

exactly, even if it's a down year...the SEC is still the #1 conference. I hate it that ESPN is trying to get more viewers by ranking whoever they want.

That's true, but it will all fall apart soon enough. For instance, the SEC only has 11 teams in the top 32 ranked recruiting classes of 2011 so far
are you being sarcastic cause thats amazing

My thoughts exactly...LSU looks just as strong as anyone else. Their D looks solid, their Special Teams are solid, they're moving the ball well enough. They're not overrated like Arkansas.
LSU is 3-0 and that is all that matters, but Navy has a higher ranked passing offense than LSU right now....that is going to spell trouble once the real schedule starts.

Bama, Gators, Hogs, AU, LSU, S.Car are all ranked in the top 20. WTF
It is way too early to tell if the SEC is having a down year. I thought prior to the season that it was a possibility. SEC East is weak IMO. Remains to be seen how strong the West really is.

Yes...the balance of power is definitely in the West. The winner of the UF/USCe game may go to the SECCG but the winner of the West will win the SEC. That makes for less drama than the past 2 years in the SECCG.
The league overall is missing the glamour offensive types. AJ Green is suspended, Bama has not really used Julio yet, Auburn and LSU cannot throw it, no Tebow, etc...so there have not been any highlight makers outside of the power backs which aren't so pretty. Defense has always made this league and it will again this year. Don't be fooled by the media...the SEC is where it always is...on top!!

ESPN loves to latch on to
1)a star QB
2)a Notre Dame QB
3)"BCS buster"
but, make no mistake, they still love them some Urban and Saban.

Because those breath beaters would rather see a Jokie State in the BCS Championship game before an Arkansas or South Carolina. The SEC is stronger then it has ever been but with no stand out Florida, Georgia, or Bama and with no clear BCS viewers share ratings they would rather hype all the TCUs, Boise States, and Ohio States of the world than show case the best league in the United States. SEC is one of the TOP REVENUE producing sports in the World up there with major league sports and world soccer.

It just looks like a down year right now, nobody has looked like world beaters so far.

...because they want it to be true. Haters!
They should be slow jerking us all season for raising their revenue.

This is just another example of the love for offense by the media. For example, we keep hearing about this shootout that will occur at Arky this weekend (because the media needs this to happen), but how many on this board who know about SEC football are expecting a physical, fairly low-scoring affair between these two. Offenses get recognition, defenses win games. Sometimes, an offense is good enough to overcome a good defense, but it has to be a really really good offense.
As examples, look at the NFL. The three most potent offenses of the last decade were (1) the greatest show on turf, (2) the 18-1 Patriots and (3) the recent Saints. The Greatest Show on Turf won one Super Bowl by a score of 23-16 and lost the other one 20-17. The 18-1 Patsies lost 17-14 in their Super Bowl. And the Saints last year won 31-17, with the help of a pick six to get over 30 points.
Look at 2003 Oklahoma. They were scoring 60 points a game. In their last two games, they were held to a combined 21 points.
I'm just saying, don't be fooled by the illusion of clicking offenses. They're sort of like Las Vegas, a lot of flash, but when you look below the surface, it's still just a bunch of smoke-filled casinos.

Because we are.
I really only think there is one "great" team, in Alabama, and I think we are overated.
LSU and Florida have had plenty of struggles.
The others (USC, AU, Arkansas) are yet to sort themselves out, but I don't think any of them are "great" teams.

In 2006 they said we were down and the Big XII South (Okie, UT, TX Tech) was the best grouping of teams in the country.
Florida proved this to be bullshite to the tune of 41-14.
