The honest answer is he plays at MSU at has three losses. Put him at UF or Bama and he's in the finals.

Because the Heisman turned into the Best Player on the Best Team Award. It is stupid and means very little now.

The Heisman is basically a joke these days. Best player...my arse.

Somehow that award went from Barry Sanders on a so so team to Mark Ingram on a very good team.

It's always been this way save some crazy record breaking season.

Oklahoma State was 10-2 and Barry Sanders had close to 3,000 yards and 40 TD. If someone had crazy numbers in 2009 they would have won it, so that's a dumb comparison. Ingram had a great season, and there have been other Heisman seasons that were certainly inferior to it.

What hurt Dak last year was LSU and A&M going into the toilet. If those two games were at the end of last year, maybe he could have had a chance. State isn't a big enough school. If he was at Florida, shoe in like Tebow was. Tebow was a 3 loss team at the time with Zero signature wins too. But he was a QB on a team that just won a NC.

RGIII won it on a 3 loss team but they Beat OU and mediocre UT that year. It was at the end of the year. so he had momentum. It really was a joke that Luck didn't win it that year.

The BCS era ushered this in majorly.

If you look pre-BCS the Heisman went to a player on a non-national title contending team pretty often.

In the BCS era you could tell there was an extremely strong bias to give the award to a player on a team going to the BCS Championship Game. That continues now, with the award going to a player on a team going to the CFP.

I don't really buy that. The award has almost always gone to someone from a really good team, even prior to the BCS. Now the BCS kind of narrowed the field a little but even in he poll championship era it was primarily players from teams in the top 5 (or from traditional "name" schools) winning. There are exceptions, of course. But not a lot.

17th in passing yards
17th in passing TDs
24th in QB Rat
Huge drop off in rushing yards, YPC, and rushing TDs from the last 2 years to this year.

He's a good QB, but he's not Heisman good without having an undefeated team.

This.

Kelly is above him in passing yards, YPA, and QBR....but you aren't seeing us complaining about him not being a heisman candidate yet.

ETA: throw in yards per rushing attempt as well.

Because Chad Kelly still has more total yards more passing yards more touchdowns accounted for and more SEC wins!!!

It was always an issue but the BCS era and official championship games just made it worse.

In the BCS/CFP era, the Heisman winner has come from a team going to the championship/playoffs 11 out of 17 seasons.

Just as a point of reference, in the 17 years prior to the BCS the Heisman went to a team that was a national championship contender 5 out of 17 seasons.

If you wanna look back at the 17 years prior to the Bowl Coalition's start in 1992, it's like 2 out of 17.

Once national championship games became official, the voters began weighting that heavily in their voting, either on purpose or subconsciously.

Because for the most part, if you don't play for a program with a storied history, you're eliminated. Save RG3.

And his own coach would sit his arse on the bench every minute of every game if he had Dak instead. Without question.
