I should preface this by saying that I respect Bama football and they could very well win the BCSNC this year.

With that said, I don't know who I would rank ahead of them. I suppose half a dozen teams could make the case, IMO, because its the preseason and no one's shite stinks yet.

Bama could run the table or end with 3 losses. That goes for LSU and Arkansas too.

This year has the makings of an SEC West bloodbath.

Because it looks very similar to 2008 when they went 12-2. Questions surrounding QB, OLine, etc., but have proven players returning. Their D was highly touted as now. They won 10 games last year and although losing some key players they are still stout at D and should be better. Their D will be the key with their O providing enough points to win.

With that said I still think they lose 3-4 this year. Arky, AU, LSU or a team they weren't prepared for (LSU game is a toss-up). I see them possibly losing in their bowl due to overwhelming sadness of only winning 9 games.

Why do I give 3-4 losses? They don't have a Rolando McClain as their leader like they did in 2008-2009. He was fierce and one of the best defensive leaders I have seen in college football. If Hightower steps up and takes that role? It could be another BCS run.

HUGE thing that is being overlooked. Last year he didn't take hold of the defense like I had hoped. Hopefully he'll be that guy this year.

Who DOES have Rolando McClain as their leader? You can't fault Bama for not having him if nobody else does either.

Last year, Bama's defense was VERY young. Very talented, but very young. Every Bama fan pointed to the defense, especially the secondary as the question mark. Most of us were cautiously optimistic that they would play well. Most of us also said, we could have a chance at a NC, but that the odds were always against winning a NC. Seems like we were pretty accurate to me. We had two very tough losses and the anomaly that was the USC game.

I think the same goes for this year. If the stars align, as they must for any team to win a NC, then it could happen. If not, it will be a very good team that should get no less than 10 wins.

The question marks on defense are gone. The young secondary actually played very well last year if you take out a few blown coverages due to the new guys making mental mistakes. You can point to the defensive line, but our defensive line has just been huge guys taking up blockers since Saban has been here. Even Dareus wasn't the sack monster that some people like to pretend he was. If they can just do their jobs and be huge and strong, then the linebackers, which are VERY good, are going to have a field day just like '09.

a zillion BAMA guys made pre season 1st team ALL SEC.

if their QB is just OK, they will be very good.

few teams can match their skill level.

plus the coach gets props after two NC's at two schools, plus he turned Mich State around. Ricky Williams undermined the MIami pro opportunity.

I didn't mean you needed Rolando himself. I was saying Bama's D needed a leader similar to RM.

You make my point here. If you had a guy standout and keep the D unit focused you pick up two wins right there.

No they are not gone eve you said IF they can do their job. Who will be that leader Hightower, NJ, Barron? Trust me every great D needs one or there will be losses in those tight games. One of them stands up and says follow me, yes it could be a great year.

Cecil Hurt tweet:

UA DC Kirby Smart asked if there is a "quarterback"-leader on this year's defense: "Sure. Dont'a Hightower.

Barron, Kirkpatrick, Hightower, Lester, Menzie, Upshaw, Gentry, and Chapman are all veteran players capable of stepping into a leadership role. I have no doubt we'll have enough leadership.

That is what I mean and I figured if anyone it would be Hightower.
