If we are just going to do away with games that have been played for 100 years then lets just get rid of conferences and start an NFL style division system

So Nebraska/Oklahoma (86 games) and Texas/A&M (118 games) rivalries no longer exist due to conference re-alignment, and life goes on. But suggest Alabama give up their whipping boy, and y'all call for nuclear doomsday.

at Bama's arrogance.

So move UT to the West. Arkansas can join its geographically challenged neighbor to the north. geographically challenged neighbor wait why cant we just expand the sec to 16

To be fair, Summer of George only said that conferences shouldn't exist if Alabama has to give up one thing for the good of the conference.

In a perfect world this would be my setup

East
South Carolina
Tennessee
Georgia
Alabama
Auburn
Florida
Kentucky

West
Vanderbilt
Ole Miss
MSU
Missouri
Arkansas
LSU
Texas A&M

Rivalries maintained
UA-UT
UGA-UF
UGA-UT
UGA-USC
UA-AU
ARK-MIZ

Rivalries renewed
AU-UT
AU-UF
AL-UF
UA-UGA

I'm willing to move to a division with 5 of the 20 best historical programs in football for the good of the conference.

Yet, somehow LSU's longstanding rivalry with Kentucky still gets the shaft. Weren't we just lectured about games that were long running series prior to '92 being important? Guess that only counts for Bama's rivalries.

Point is for the last few years both Tennessee and Florida have sucked for the majority of them. Nobody has gained much of an advantage playing one or the other.

That may be your point, but it's off topic.

My point is that I would like to see LSU play Tennessee (and UGA) more, but we can't due to Alabama.

And least we made y'all give up that traditional rivalry Bama had with Vandy.

Then you guys can thow Kentucky in the West and keep Vandy in the East.

I think we all know just playing games doesn't make a rivalry. Alabama-MSU and Alabama-Vandy have played a ton. I care nothing about those series. Not rivalries.

Then add a 9th game - and you can argue that it isn't going to happen, which is fine, but that is beside the point. Adding a 9th game establishes the same thing ending permanent rivals does.

Yet in '92 we had to have TWO permanent opponents so Alabama (not SoG) could keep its rivalry with the state of Tennessee.

No it doesn't. It combines schedule imbalance with home-away imbalance. It isn't going to happen because MONEY. Ending permanent opponents might happen since it has already happened once. 9 games is not going to be the solution to this problem. So keep on saying it is kind of pointless.

That was much more so Auburn could keep Florida and Georgia than it was the other.

That's what you would like to believe. Auburn was in favor of it, no doubt. But Bama had to keep playing Vandy too. Nothing wrong with that, but don't act like Bama had nothing to do with it. The historical record shows that to simply not be the case.
