Ten win seasons. For all the Bama coaches.
Ten win seasons for all the L6U coaches. Oh, they didn't? Sorry.

If LSU is such a great job. How'd we steal him?

Bad hires. Made poor coaches seem just average. Hell, Dubose won the SEC at UA. Sanctions also didn't help too much.

DuBose won the SEC Championship at Alabama. His next job was head coach at D3 Millsaps followed by Luverne HS. That's how much anyone thought of his head coaching abilities.

Dennis Franchione won 10 games and finished ranked #11 in his last year at Alabama. He never finished ranked in 5 seasons at Texas A&M.

Mike Shula won 10 games and finished ranked #8 in his 3rd season at Alabama. He hasn't sniffed another head coaching job despite letting people know he would be open to it on multiple occasions.

That was one big long barf of an era of hiring coaches.

Yeah I was way off. Must've been remembering the LSU number.

Still about 40% more than number 2. That's a pretty sweet perk.

What is funny is that it took a Michigan State Coach to make LSU relevant. The 2 years before Saban, LSU was 4-7 and 3-8.

Gene Stallings won 28 games in a row. Saban' hasn't even won 28 games in a row.

Mike Debose Beat Steve Spurrier's Florida team twice in one year and won the SEC.

Fran Beat Nick Saban' LSU team 31-0 and won 10 games back when 10 wins meant something.

Mike Shula beat the shite out of Urban Meyers Florida team 31-3 and had a top 10 finish with 10 wins.

Anyone can win at Bama. Those guys were winning games back win Bama was still playing at Legion Field and didn't have A1 facilities too.

The very moment Bama came off probation and got a competent coach domination resumed. Order was restored.

Looks like Tennessee, Texas A&M, Auburn, Georgia, LSU and Florida have pretty nice cushions that they chose not to spend.

So, not really a "perk" when others have a similar revenue figure. More of a choice of how to allocate resources, especially for Tennessee, A&M and LSU.

Why is Alabama considered the best job in the SEC?

Is it? Not sure. There are other jobs that have potential to be as good depending on what you want in a job. However with regard to why Alabama is considered by some to be the best job, here are a few things to consider:

Money:

quote:

Alabama football coach Nick Saban will be paid $11.125 million this season under a three-year contract extension that includes a $4 million signing bonus approved Tuesday by the university board of trustees’ compensation committee. Altogether, the eight-year deal running through Jan. 31, 2025, is scheduled to pay Saban $65 million, not including incentive bonuses that could total $700,000 each year. The $11.125 million that Saban is set to receive for this season will be, by far, the greatest amount paid to a college athletics coach since USA TODAY Sports began tracking the compensation of football and men's basketball coaches in 2006.

Facilities:

100k+ stadium nearly always full
Athletic facilities consistently ranked near the top in college football

They play good football:

# of SEC Titles:
Alabama - 26
UT - 13
Georgia - 12
LSU - 11
Florida - 8
Auburn - 8
Ole Miss - 6
UK - 2
MSU - 1
Rest - 0

National Titles (AP/Coaches/BCS/CFP only to cut down on the bitching)
Alabama - 11
Florida - 3
LSU - 3
Auburn - 2
UT - 2
Georgia - 1 (37 years ago)
Texas A&M - 1 (78 years ago)
Rest - 0

By far the most wins, best winning percentage, most bowls, most bowl wins, most All-Americans, etc etc in the SEC.

Pretty much all of these superlatives existed before Saban arrived at Alabama too.

So they have shown over time to be the best at on field performance with a commitment to facilities and willingness to pay big coach $$ at least as good if not better than any other school in the SEC. Sounds like it should at least be in the running for best job don't you think?

Would you rather work for a company that spends more or less money on your department?

It might not be a huge thing but it's definitely a perk and an advantage.

Same reason you went through Bowden, Tuberville, Chizik, and now Malzahn?

I mean you had to fire a guy that brought you your lone NC in over 50 years. Now you have a High School coach who is 0-3 vs your main two Rivals the last 3 years. Fixing to be 0-4. Will he be fired?

Oh yea, 100% agree. I guess what I was saying was it was a decision to spend more and not that Alabama just had a lot more than everyone else.

But yea, totally agree.

The reasons are fairly obvious. First, tradition; Alabama has won more football championships than any other SEC team. Second, the Bama administration/athletic department is obviously committed to hiring the best coach money can buy and provided unmatched support for their football program. Saban obviously is a great coach but he is also getting great support from the powers that be at Alabama.

So why has Auburn gone through 3 coaches in the last 10 years, which, since we're counting, is less than 4 years each?

Auburn has had 3 coaches in the last 19 years (1999-2017) That's 6.3 years each.

By your rules, Bama had 4 coaches from Stallings' last year (1996) until Shula's first (2003); that's an average of 2 years each.

Try again.

in the last 20 au has had 4... but I guess 19 years sounds better.

From Bowden in 97 to malzahns first in 09 au had 4 coaches avg. 3 years each.

saban left LSU for the NFL. Most rational fans know that if ha had not failed at Miami, he would not be at Alabama.

Most coaches get more than 2 years before being defined as a failure or a success.

Though I imagine LSU fans are PRAYING that they can go ahead and slide Coach O into the "failed" column and move forward.

You didn't steal him from LSU.

Its not as if he was sitting in his office at LSU pining away for a job at Alabama. He failed miserably at Miami first. Needed a fall back plan.
