Why is Alabama considered the best job in the SEC?

Before Saban Alabama sucked. Look at Mike Shula and Mike Dubose. Two Mikes that only gets you a ESPN Radio Show.
Alabama would be Nebraska or Tennessee now if Saban never came. Completely irrevelant and no one could care less.
LSU would be #1 in the SEC through this time too.
It's just funny that it took a LSU coach for ALabama to be good.

You aren't really wrong, but Saban happened. Sounds like you already knew the answer though.

Yep! LSU's the CLASS OF THE SEC
Bama had to steal our old coach just to start winning again!

It's time for LSU to accept #thedecline.

He has several problems down here. First, LSU fans can be insecure. Maybe it's because LSU sits smack on the border of Acadiana—the 22 parishes that make up Cajun country—and the locals' antennae remain out after years of ridicule. Maybe they are scarred from years of losing before Saban, and, somewhere deep inside, maybe they're afraid all this success will go away. Secondly, he went to Alabama. Tiger fans won't admit this, but they have a complex about Alabama, so a loved one leaving for Tuscaloosa subtly reinforces the fear that they are inferior.

Dubose, Franchione, and Shula all had a 10 win season at UA. We've only had 1 coach since the 1920s to not have a 10 win season. It's a pretty easy job.

we sucked in the years post Bear but prior to that we had 12 natties. Gene's 7 year tenure wasn't too bad with 1 natty.

If going back in time and giving LSU the 2011 title would improve the quality of posters on this board, I would be down for it.

So why did you go through 7(counting Price) coaches in 24 years?

Doesn't alabama spend about twice as much money on football as the next closest SEC school? That's a pretty sweet perk.

Alabama took a NC winning coach from LSU and made him Legendary, the best of all time.

Because we hired 3 bad coaches and 1 horny toad in a row due to "hirin one of Bahrs boys" and 2 probations?
And all 3 that actually coached a game won 10 games at some point even in the worst decade in the history of the program.
SO SUCK IT BARNER

Yea, being rich is fun
Also I'm pretty sure that isn't even close to true

I'm telling y'all...this LSU melt is getting really weird.
To answer your question like it is anything other than brain diarrhea: Alabama is the only perennial powerhouse in the SEC. Meaning, with any consistent success...the kind of success that many other SEC teams have experienced for a few years over the last couple of decades, they can turn into a self-perpetuating rolling ball of butcher knives...have their pick of recruits, not only each year, but for those recruits that don't look likely to be early round NFL draft picks, they can afford to process them out and get some new 5*'s in their place. It's the only school in the SEC that can oversign and then offer grayshirts to the recruits they still kinda want..and for the most part, keep those recruits. Other than maybe TAMU, it is the wealthiest program as well. They can afford to keep legions of quality control specialists and offensive analysts to help make Saban look like more a genius than he already is. With a pretty good coach, Bama can have the kind of success Ohio State has had over the last couple of decades. With a GREAT coach (which of course is what they have), they can accomplish consistent greatness over time. Saban could not have done that anywhere else...not even at LSU where you have the whole state and half of TX to cherry pick from.

Price never coached a game so it's 6 in 24 years, which is an average of 4 years each.
So why has Auburn gone through 3 coaches in the last 10 years, which, since we're counting, is less than 4 years each?

LSU's head coach directly preceding Saban (interim doesn't count) was a guy hired after going 19-25 (9-22 SEC) after Vanderbilt. Hiring Gerry DiNardo really showed the clout LSU had in college football prior to Saban.
