This isn't like the LHN or B1G Network because neither was able to pull Dish this early and UVerse wasn't nearly as big when they got them. The SECN has tremendous leverage right now and they are using it.
Agreed, Dish gives a huge amount of leverage because it is a competitor in almost every market.
For the large cable companies it will be hard for them to feel any SECN hit, but the smaller ones can actually be threatened by people going to Dish. Plus Dish is a perfect partner when you consider how rural much of the SEC footprint is.
Still I think expecting your provider to cave last minute is folly. Thanks to a corrupt FCC it is merger season in cable providerland, which is much much bigger than who gets the SEC Network.
Don't expect Direct TV to give in before the season because they want to be in the best shape possible for a potential AT&T acquisition (which afterwards would apply the deal Uverse already has I bet but it will take a while). Comcast and TWC want to wait until they join to negotiate a better deal, so until all that happens no SECN on that front either.
If you want it, the best plan is to switch to a provider that has it.

Once the first SECN game hits and these providers don't have it, their social media will be ruined for months. That will get them moving.
I really believe this, especially in Southern rural areas who rely on satellite cable as well as a State like Mississippi where Comcast is the cable provider for major areas such as the Jackson Metro, Hattiesburg/Laurel, Meridian, and Tupelo.

I have thought that from the beginning. At the end of the day it is not about how much money the SECN can bring in for a cable company that has it, but how much they will lose in bad PR if they don't have it.
Only the biggest of the biggest, aka ones who are already known as evil giants, can afford to mess with the SEC fanbase.
For the smallest providers, like local ones, it is about avoiding vandalism to your property. For the larger ones it is about avoiding vandalism to your Twitter and Facebook.
In a way the SECN business model is very similar to the one organized crime uses.

In fact I don't think it will be on Comcast and Time warner for two or more years.
Didn't these two refuse to give in when the NFL Network started as well?

How will this work if you have Watch ESPN through Comcast or DirecTV????
This is a big question how the SEC Network will be streamed, Im sure there could be a way to pay for its streaming a-la carte maybe or even it is like the old school Saturday college football pass.

Yes, they did. It tooks years for them to get the NFL Network, only after many many Thursday night games have passed. And the NFL is much bigger than college sports.
TWC is THE primary cable provider for Austin, TX and it didn't have the LHN until this year. IN AUSTIN! They are known for holding out when these channels are created.
Directv also has a bit of a track record, as it has turned down the PAC Network- even on the west coast.

Best analogy I have seen yet. Mind if I use it as a sig quote?

No. It's called capitalism.

Sure, but not in the traditional "grow my partner's pie, grow my pie" sense that we look to for stable economic growth. That would be the voluntary $10 a month premium tier model.
Instead this is "tell my partner he either gives me half of his pie, or I'll slap his hand and his whole pie will fall on the floor." The idea is to milk the current cable system for all its worth, while being independent of them brandwise (aka not locked in branding premium tiers) so that once the corpse is sucked dry you aren't tied to it.
It is very corporate raider-style capitalism.
Which is fine, whatever gets the SEC paid the most....

If there were a reliable 1080 stream I'd be all about it. I've yet to find that though.
No way am I settling for a 240, 360, or 480 stream.

Another great analogy

They have already announces that SECN will have it's own app like WATCH ESPN to stream on.
Just go read the internet Bundy, all this information is out there. or just follow @secnetwork for pete's sake.

But that will only apply if your provider offers the network and you can get the channel anyway.

Yep. Sucks if you don't have a provider yet. I have Uverse so
There's literally no discussion to it. The others will fold, it's just a pissing match. Bundy just wants to whine and cry about it, forge that. Change providers or don't, no one cares.

Comcast operates under a "do harm" philosophy. Whatever they do, first and foremost, it must harm their customers.
