They have already announces that SECN will have it's own app like WATCH ESPN to stream on.
But that will only apply if your provider offers the network and you can get the channel anyway.
Actually they changed that yesterday and the SEC Network FAQ now says it will be available through the WatchESPN app but, as you said, only through authorized providers. Those who think that they will stream or otherwise access the SEC Network without a provider are kidding themselves.

Plenty of college kids will do just that, but they will use the login daddy pays for in his cable bill.

Oh it can be done. There are shady overseas websites that will stream anything and everything online. Like I said though, the quality is crap.

Why not let viewers CHOOSE then a-la carte.
Different issue altogether.
You asked a question, you got the correct answer.
FWIW, I agree with you on allowing consumers to have more choice.

It's a pissing contest right now. Every cable provider, that is big in the south, will have to carry it. If they don't, they will lose mass business to the competitor's.
That's part of the problem; cable providers don't have competition in their respective areas.

And they won't as long as consolidation continues.

Since cable companies have much bigger ISSUES to deal with, I doubt another sports channel is high on their list.

Cox & the local CBS affliate channel literally negotiated down to the last hour of the contract, so something this big will just take a lot more time. But it does all boil down to money & it's a billion dollar company bargaining with other billion dollar companies. The fans are the least of their consideration. Funny, when ESPN first started, they had to pay the various cable providers to put them on the air. Now they are holding everyone else by the balls & will not hesitate to squeeze long and hard to get the best deal they can get.

These negotiations are not so much about whether or not the various providers carry the SEC Network but rather, all the content and streaming rights for the entire spread of the Disney properties -and- how much of all that is broadcast in HD. The contractual content is immense in it's totality and will be multi-year in scope. I tend to believe that in light of this that those TV providers with new contract talks scheduled for next year will first try to work out a "bridge" deal to carry them to contract and failing that, take the temporary hit and pass on the SEC Network until the existing contract expires and go from there. I do believe that most all of the major players will carry the network but perhaps the larger question is "when"?

It'll be worked out this summer.
Comcast will, but DirecTV may play hardball.
A few years ago there were several channels blocked on DTV for months while they worked out new contracts.
DTV doesn't care about the customer.

Yeah. That wouldn't play well in South Carolina.
Redirecting resources again.

I didn't notice the channels that DTV blocked out for a few days/weeks. Probably already had them blocked from my custom list anyway. Dish is far worse a channels being blocked than DTV.
Regardless, once DTV gets the SEC network expect your bill to go up to correspond with the SEC rights fee and then some so DTV can get their cut.
Nowadays it's getting so bad with commercials, on all of the channels, you might as well be paying to watch those instead of the programming.

This. Except for football, we are a really regional conference.

No doubt the access fees will go up as they already do almost annually. But, speaking for myself only, I'll gladly pay it for the additional content and the rather small bump will be far less than if offered ala carte. Hell, I'd buy it either way and while I understand the complaints from other areas of the country & non-sports fans about having to "subsidize" the new additions, for us here it's a win/win deal. I'm thrilled with it and am counting the days to 0 8-14-14.

This is just the SEC fleecing more fans to line the pockets of Commissioners, AD and greasy bowl directors. If the players were getting a cut of this I would feel better. But the John Junker's of the world will benefit from this.
I want the SEC Network but I am curious the details with cable providers. In other words how much is the SEC wanting to charge cable providers because that cost is at some point being passed along to the consumer.

I'm kind of surprised Verizon FIOS hasn't added it yet. They seem to add channels all the time, figured they would have jumped right on it.
