Why has the SEC taken such a dip in FB coaching quality?

Outside of Saban, the SEC has no star power.

To be honest, if Saban left, the only SEC coach I would want Bama to consider would be Mullen.

I think Smart may turn out be bo pretty good, but it's mostly because he's a great recruiter.

The Big10 has much better coaching quality.

What happened?

There aren't a lot of championship winning coaches out there to hire tbh.

Les Miles, do you want him?

I don't think it will be a big drop off because, as unproven or mediocre as these coaches might be, they're almost all great recruiters. The talent level will still be elite in the conference.

I also think Matt Canada and Dave Aranda are superstar assistants, that has to count for something for LSU while they're here.

ETA:

I think most of the "dropoff" is because previous coaches were overrated. Sure there was Meyer/Saban for a while, but Les was clearly overrated as a game coach and strategist. Richt never could get over the hump.

Bad firings, and even worse hiring. Georgia, Florida, LSU, Auburn, South Carolina and Tennessee all hired a worse coach (or coaches) than the one they had when Saban started.

Only Arkansas and Ole Miss are noticeably better at the position now than they were in 2007.

Yes. Les Miles would be the best hire Ole Miss could make after firing Freeze.

Saban made everybody quit, is that what you wanted to hear?

Florida has a good coach and I don't care about the rest.

Muschamp sucked and while McElwain ain't Meyer, he has done pretty well IMO.

More like a lot of long seasoned coaches are gone replaced by relatively new head coaches who you dont know exactly what you'll get at the moment with them.

Has won 2 SEC championships, one NC and played in another. Hard to say we aren't in a better position.

And more importantly, turned the bagmen loose again.

You have no idea how well guys like O, Smart, McElwain & Muschamp will do compared to their predessors. They have coached for 2 seasons at most at their current jobs.

Ole Miss yes, Arkansas? They are doing no better now than under Houston Nutt, and worse than under Petrino.

The most important thing to the fanbases of the SEC is beating Saban. When a team has a coach who can't do that then he gets fired.

Everybody started hiring the flavor of the month to hang with Bama and no one has succeeded.

OM will be way way worse off after this season than they have been in a long time... heck they may not even get to play the season. they are gonna lose 15 million a year for probably 3 years with the bowl ban in place. fools they are

I'm not sure why Petrino is brought up considering he mentioned 2007 but it is a little silly to try and compare a 10 year gap anyway. The conference has changed so much since then.
