The champ makes no bones about it.

quote:

Georgia landed elite 2016 prospect Elijah Holyfield last week, but his father says Notre Dame would be a better destination due to its academic prestige.

World Champion heavyweight boxer Evander Holyfield told For The Win this week that he’s trying to convey life after football for his son and believes the Irish offer a greater opportunity at future success:

“If you go to college, you go to get an education. That’s why I tried to get him to go to Notre Dame.”

Holyfield continued:

“What are you going to do from 25-75? Education is the key. Life is more than football, just like life is more than boxing. I’m can’t say that Georgia can’t give him a good education, but only that at Notre Dame you’d be getting a $250,000 a year education instead of a $50,000 education.”

Evander clearly doesn't know that Georgia is the Harvard of the south.

Knockout punch before his son even gets started.

Don't worry. Lil Holyfield is an 18 year old male. Most of the gals at ND look like Stingray. He ain't going to ND.

Is a Notre Dame education more valuable than a UGA one? Well, duh. I'm not sure anyone would argue that. However, the argument about one costing more than the other is a bit silly. If Holyfield is an out-of-state student, that UGA education is probably close to being $250,000 than $50,000.

I think he was referring to his son's annual salary after graduation.

Champ learned some hard lessons about how fleeting an athletic fortune can be, he has a point.

Is Georgia even a top 3 school in Georgia?

I understood it to mean the cost of the degree, which would in fact be the value of the scholarship.

I just figured he was rounding off what 4 years tuition at at school is. Maybe I'm wrong. Either way, if you're majoring in "economics" or "human and organizational development" or whatever typical football-player degree he goes itno, the school is not going to matter all that much. You'll find a booster who is willing to give you a job after graduation.

Well that makes more sense. In-state tuition at UGA isn't too bad. I've never checked ND's cost of attendance, but I'd bet it is pretty ridiculous.

He should come to SC and major in Int'l Business and get a $1M a year education. Also, our RB Depth Chart opens up very nicely in '16. However, if he doesn't like starting or being on the 2 deep in '16 or making $millions of dollars, than SC isn't the school for him.

I was drawing degrees off the top of my head that I'd heard during Vandy's intros Thursday. I really should have thought that one though, but I didn't.

ETA: Also, economics really isn't in my field of expertise. I was under the impression an economics degree was pretty universal, not one that has a big difference in value amongst major universities. Certainly not a 5 to 1 between ND and UGA.

He doesn't want his son to end up working for a Georgia Tech guy.
