There are like 8 different "coach of the year" awards and Saban has won a variation of them over 10 times.

And if we're being honest, there are years when someone else is more deserving of the award even if they don't win it all.

That's just objectively wrong. CoY is the best coach that year. MVP awards are for value to the team, not just being the best. It's a totally separate criteria.

While it is different criteria, it's still a subjective designation.

I'd see no problem with Chris Peterson or Mike MacIntyre winning CoY this year.

Because we like to treat it as "biggest surprise" and not best coach.

I love hearing from people that "oh he had the best players" like that isn't part of being a college football coach.

Because most coaches could win the National Championship with the talent Saban has. It goes to the coach that does the best job with what he has, as a whole. Not arguing Saban is not the best, because he is....easily.

But recruiting the best players is part of the job. And he does it better than anyone.

He yells at his assistants. The voters don't like that.

Yes, it is. But which coach do you think has to work harder to make it to the playoffs? Sweeney or Saban? Alabama is on cruise control, while other programs have to work hard to do the same things. Clemson came a hairs breadth away from beating Alabama last year with far inferior players. (They had a good team, but not on the level of Alabama)

Why don't you bring up recruiting one more time like it actually matters when discussing this?

It's really simple. When you have a go from 4-9 to 10-2 in the regular season, their coach deserves every award he's going to get.

He probably deserves it but as Spurrier once said, a bunch of coaches have won titles at Bama.

Voters look at the Bama program and don't believe it's as hard to win so you don't have to coach as hard.

Agreed. If there is one thing I would criticize Saban about it would be his lazy work ethic. Guy is just coasting while others are out there busting their arse.

Actually that is not at all what I meant. So....let me make it clearer. Saban does nto allow his people, or himself to become complacent. The recruiting classes reflect this.

However, because of the success he has had at Alabama, he will have the advantage in a recruiting war most of the time. I didn't mean to insinuate that he had gotten lazy....simply because of the hard work he has put into building his program, he has certain inherent advantages. I would think that is only common sense.

If you check recruiting rankings over the years, a team that wins or even plays for a National Championship usually gets a bump in recruiting the next year. With Alabama's success, they get an annual bump. Why? because kids, justifiably, want to play for Nick Saban.

Alabama is every team they play's entire season. Programs spend offseasons working on game plans to beat them.

So, because of everything he has built and worked to achieve, he shouldn't receive the credit for it?

If it was easy to win 12 games with highly toutest prospects, why don't Florida State and LSU do it every year? I'll hang up and listen.

So, you really don't understand why a coach like McIntyre at Colorado deserves the recognition?

No, no I totally understand why he deserves recognition. I just think it's silly how guys like Saban and Jimbo get dinged for having blue chip talent, but say, Dabo Swinney doesn't.

You get awards for improvement, not maintaining. Like I said, it's actually very simple.

As much as it pains me to say it, this may have been the best coaching job of his career.

Granted, the SEC is historically weak overall this season. But Bama has been dominating teams every week without a major letdown. That's hard to maintain in any league.

Put things in perspective: in the Iron Bowl, AU averaged 4.04 yards per snap, managed 7 first downs, and scored 12 points.

That was the 4th best overall offensive performance Bama allowed all season long.
