Why doesn't Saban win CoY every season?

It seems that they try to not give him the award, but everyone knows he's the best.

If it doesn't go to the best coach, why even have it?

I think he deserves it this year.

What he does isn't impressive compared to other coaches if you compare the talent level.

Because COTY is like Flavor of the Week. It's usually a guy who does better than an expected in one season, not a guy who dominates every year. But Saban will be recognized after they name the award after him.

Since he's on a historic run, I would have to disagree.

But getting talent to your school is part of your coaching job.

This trophy should read "Coach of the Year- considering expectations". Cause otherwise he would win it every year. But, it seems to go to the coach who does best versus expectations.

I'm sure you had Bama going undefeated this year in August

He's 12-0 with a freshman quarterback. Everyone told us that isn't possible

FWIW, Urban Meyer hasn't won a single COY award since the 2004 season. But I agree with you that it's complete bullshite. Saban should have won that award last year. If you can't even lead your team to at least a top 15 ranking, you shouldn't win COTY especially at a place like Florida that have won big and have high expectations.

I could win a national championship every year if I had a roster of five stars three deep. He literally doesn't have to actually coach anything, and he doesn't. He's pretty much just a mascot at this point.

The 'best' coach isn't always the coach with the best record. The award takes into what a coach does relative to their situation.
The expectations for Saban at this point are to win the West, likely win the SEC and end up in the playoffs.

Same reason why LeBron doesn't win MVP every season.

Actually what he is doing is more impressive than every coach when you consider the HC's complete job is to build a staff, recruit players, develop players, develop game plans, and coach games that result in wins.

It would be boring to give it to Saban (or the NC coach) every year. It's obvious the award is more for coaching jobs where there was a big turn around / exceeding expectations, etc. And that's okay. Everyone should just realized that's what it is.

Definitely hard to argue the facts. What he has done with Bama in light of the QB position of recent years is nothing short of amazing. He has built a sustainable system that dominates the modern era. Unheard of. Should be COY every year until someone can beat the red machine

That's just objectively wrong. CoY is the best coach that year. MVP awards are for value to the team, not just being the best. It's a totally separate criteria.

Because coaches like Mike McIntyre deserve it more.
