This is incorrect.
We do control our destiny. The committee stated they don't look at the team's as conferences they look at them as individuals, then look at their bodies of work.
If Alabama (we) win out, we'd have beaten an undefeated #1 ranked Miss State and a top-ten Auburn. Both ranked above us and both falling moving us up to at worst 4th.
Besides I strongly doubt Oregon (very overrated) win out. I don't even think FSU wins out and if they lose, even one? They gone (unless we all lose two).

Agreed, but maybe that is as it is today because they haven't finished conference title games? After those, do they care about conference titles and how much?

I don't think this committee cares too much about conferences titles unless you're playing another top team. The fact they broke down their process into analyzing each team and their resume; not their conference is a big tell in how things will end up.
If you're good, they don't care what conference you're from or how many that conference already has representing.
I think that is refreshing because the purpose of this playoff or any playoff is to get the best teams in not every fricking peasant represented.
