I ETA'd my last post brah.

The situation is just different now with him at Bama. He is going down as the greatest coach ever. You guys are fortunate he doesn't have aspiring goals for the pros anymore is my point. Alabama wouldn't have stopped him in 05 either.

The relationship between Saban and the LSU fanbase was rocky. Y'all and the media were highly critical of him (much like with Miles). The Nick Satan nickname came from the BR media. He's alluded to the fact that he did not feel appreciated at LSU. LSU fans like to forget that now and act like he was beloved the way Bama loves him now. It ain't true.

Still waiting for the link

Saban would've had an eye on the NFL no doubt. But we may have been better about keeping him. Remember Saban already had a reputation as a journeyman, and we had already been burned not long before (Fran). But there's no way to know for sure.

Exactly, Sexton is leveraging for more money.

The fact he has moved in the past is why Bama threw everything they have at him. I don't blame them either.

We can agree that we don't know for sure, but Saban wanted back in the league.

After Miami he talked about how players and everything had changed since he was previously in the pros. It's one of those things he had to try and a lateral move in the college ranks wasn't gonna happen. I don't feel as though he loved and embraced the culture of Louisiana the way Les had and it's why his relationship with HS coaches was better than Saban. The HS coaches thought Saban was arrogant and wasn't sincere when recruiting and trying to build relationships.

Most people would be over Saban if he wasnt going to our high schools every year trying to take the best players with him and avoiding having to face them.
Kinda like your wife leaving you, but that slut keeps trying to frick every friend or girlfriend you have

What was Saban supposed to say here?

"I may be leaving LSU, please stay tuned".

All coaches spout BS it's part of the gig.

Billy Mays -- despite what was posted earlier, I don't think Coach Saban ever said this.

The secret about Saban is he's a socially awkward introvert. He doesn't fit in anywhere. I don't think he's "embraced the culture" here (his wife has though). He just works all the time. He knows how to coach football, but 99% of his real social interactions are awkward and forced and impatient. And I'm okay with that. Bear was a fraternizing good 'ol boy and an active community leader and Saban is the exact opposite, but we make it work. He doesn't need to be Bear.

Exactly Mays.

Look, it sucks as an LSU fan to know that a guy that will go down as a top 3 coach in the history of college football couldn't get rid of his NFL itch prior to LSU. What makes it worse is when he comes back he lands at the best job in college football and then becomes content. There would be no resentment if he was winning titles in the Big 10 or some shite.

This.... Perfect analysis... To be honest, I don't think Saban would truly "embrace" any culture.. I do think that he is as happy as he's ever been(probably even more so)... Well as happy as Saban could ever be...

I don't think anybody would have kept him. He wanted to take his game to the NFL and money almost certainly wasn't an object, nor was fanbase devotion. The reason Bama can keep him now is he's already done the NFL head coach thing and found himself preferring college. It's a growing process, really. He knows he can be successful in the NFL (contrary to what some people claim, he actually had Miami turning around and heading in the right direction) but it obviously wasn't for him, for whatever reason.

It's the fact that he is a former coach of ours who owns us. I respect the hell out of him and appreciate what he did for the program.

But considering he recruits against us, usually beats us, and is in our division people are gonna be mad.

The fact that he cherry picks some of our recruits and the debacle of 1/9 throws gas on the fire.

I agree, the man really has no loyalty.

It's pure ambition.

I bet he's loyal to where he comes from like most people. His father and his wife come from there and we know they highly influence him. But there's no money in Carolina, WV.

The only time this may have been remotely true was following the 2004 season when rumors of leaving came about. Before that, he was worshipped.

It's not like he directly left LSU to go to Bama. Tuberville left Ole Miss overnight for Auburn and we eventually got over it. Why can't LSU? Last night's FU Saban chant on national TV made it very clear he's in your heads.

I hope the grudge ended just a little bit last night. I'm tired of the LSU-Bama rivalry. They weren't even the best team that came to Death Valley this year.

Link?

He left for the NFL not because he didn't feel appreciated.
