Ill answer.
First off, LSU is one of top jobs in the country.
Other Coaches see the writing on the wall for Miles. He has 2015 and 2016 to get LSU into the SEC championship if not he is gone. If he goes 6-6 this year, you can bet your arse he is fired.
No young/up and coming coach is going to hitch his wagon to that; no matter how much talent LSU has on defense.
If I can dream, Chip Kelly has a bad year in Philly, Les Miles retires/forced out. Still then our AD has to go.

And I know you're tying to flame but to answer your OP, if I recall every defensive coach besides Chavis signed an extension. And I'm sure LSU wasn't willing to clean house and let the new guy bring in his guys, and also I could imagine potential DCs not being able to bring in some of their guys was a major setback. Really the timing and extensions situation made it pretty tough on bringing in a "home run hire".

see this makes some sense. And I do get the hamstrung issue on Steele and why you had to go for such a depressing hire.
But I look at Bama's staff or UF's new one and I'm impressed. I look at LSU's and it's just a bunch of retreads. Yet LSU's is paid more.

Cam Cameron. Got Phillip Rivers and Drew Brees to be all Pro's. Guy can coach at the NFL level.
