That is more than double the 2018 number.

20 is very impressive.
9 kinda sucks (2017 and 2018).

You can see the reason for questions about the instate talent.

As I said, this is the calm before the storm. 2017 and 2018 put Tennessee on the same level as the state of Alabama when it comes to instate talent. Which is good but not elite. Its with the 2019 and 2020 classes where you'll see the instate talent coming from the state of Tennessee EXPLODE.

There's a reason Nick Saban opened up a Mercedes-Benz dealership in Nashville, TN this year. He knows what is coming. Metro Nashville is right now booming with a population increase similar to what happened in Metro Atlanta in the 1990s. Lots of people have been moving in for the last 5-10 years. And that has resulted in an increase in the amount of talent coming out of the state. The 2017 and 2018 instate classes were only an appetizer. The 2019 and 2020 classes are about to be the full-course meal.

Tennessee in 4-5 years will be able to sign top 5-10 recruiting classes on mostly instate kids. Couldn't say this before but its now coming close to a reality. Because when you are producing 20 or more 4-star or higher rated kids each year, it makes it a lot easier to build those top 5-10 rated recruiting classes year in and year out.

Fans of other teams can get mad, but Tennessee is about to become a RECRUITING HOTBED in the next 4-5 years.

I don't think anyone can make the case that Tennessee can field a team from instate and be competitive.

Maybe not right now. But by 2022 or 2023 it could become a reality. As others have said, there are currently 20 composite 4-star players in the 2019 class. The 2020 class only has the top 109 players rated by 247 sports and there are currently 8 Tennessee players in that top 109 nationally. So it looks like BOTH the 2019 and 2020 classes will have approximately 20 4-star or higher rated prospects. You push that forward into the classes of 2021-2023, and it wouldn't be a shock if in 2023 you'll be seeing a Tennessee football team competing for championships with mostly Tennessee players.

It can't happen right now. But Tennessee is close to fielding an elite team made up almost entirely of instate players.

Look that might be a good group of players by TNs standard, but how does it compare to LA,AL, SC etc. Those three states all have smaller populations than TN, but have much better highschool talent. If that was two classes worth of players from any of those states it would be considered a down period. TN has comparable talent to MS, but has twice the population.

You're living in the past. Tennessee has lapped Alabama and South Carolina in terms of instate talent ALREADY. Its now approaching Louisiana status.

By 2019 and 2020, the state of Tennessee will be standing alone in a tier by itself below Florida, Georgia, Texas, and California when it comes to producing instate talent.

But go ahead and keep living in the past.

Tennessee has 33% more people than each of those states.
Congrats on finally putting together more football talent.

Seriously. Congrats.

I didn't say a school only recruits in state. But that a state could.

Georgia has 37 four stars or better for 2018 and 41 four stars or better for 2019.

If Tennessee is moving up, I wonder what states are moving down.

Any student athlete that goes to a D1 school deserves good coaching. That is coaching to make him a better athlete, as well as coaching to teach the young men how to win games. Stupid mistakes on the part of coaches, tantrums from coaches, unfair treatment.....etc.

No student athlete deserves stupid coaching.

They don't deserve shite. It's what they WANT. That is what matters. They will keep firing coaches until they find one that can compete at a high level. As well they should. Bama will do the same after Saban.

You guys are delusional because of recruiting rankings. AL had 9 players drafted in 2017. 3 in in the 1st rd and 6 in the top 3 rds. That's an average year for AL. That would be an amazing all time type of year for TN.

2014 was considered an above average year for AL with 14 drafted including #1 overall in James Winston.

2017 was a banner year for LA with 15 players drafted.

Tennessee doesn't have the demographics of AL, LA, or SC to have comparable talent despite having a larger population. Recruiting rankings are setting false expectations for you guys.

Twice as many first round picks in last decade despite the uptick in talent starting about 4-5 years ago.

Once again you keep talking about the past while we talk about the FUTURE.

The 2019 class in Tennessee is the NEW NORMAL. You're gonna start seeing 20+ 4-star or higher recruits coming out of the state of Tennessee every year. That will eventually translate to more NFL players than Alabama or any other state not named Florida, Georgia, Texas, and California.

But once again, keep talking about the PAST.

These kids haven't finished their junior season.
The biggest recruiting ranking changes happen this winter.

It would be a funny melt if that 19 class from Tennessee falls in the rankings.

More than Ohio,Louisiana,NC,Bama or Virginia?
News flash;Tennessee isn't the only state with
a growing population.

Yes,I understand about your '19 class but to say it's the "new normal"is a bit premature.Overall numbers might go up consistently but 4 and 5 stars do fluctuate
from year to year.

People in Middle Tennessee have been talking about the improving talent for 5 years now, and it hasn't translated.

They keep talking about the population boom etc. What they fail to realize is when you get a lot transplants they are much more likely to go out of state. There is no loyalty there.

It's why alot metro Atlanta kids are willing to go out of state. Even if they are born there more than likely their parents weren't. They might grow up in a house where everyone roots for another team.

Recruiting is not the problem. Historically UT has cherry picked TN and high schools from the surrounding states like GA SC and NC. They also have gotten quality players from other places like Fl, TX, and CA. The past few years TN has proven that they can still recruit these areas, although not like the past. The bottom line is UT has a coach without the ability to make common sense decision. It doesn't take a Nick Saban to decide to run the ball from under center on first and goal. It doesn't take a Rocket Scientist with Alopecia to know that you can t get beat deep in the final seconds. The constant gimmicks and "coach speak" are enough to make a maggot vomit. Vols fans are tired of the dog and pony show. In five years, he makes similar mistakes and gives the same ole BS excuses. Not sure who the answer is but its not Butch. Do Vols fans expect too much? Maybe. Do they deserve an OVC coach? NO.

When I think of Tennessee, I think of strong offensive lines and great receivers.

I think of serviceable QBs and tailbacks.

You are right. Regardless of where they come from, UT is always talented.

Some will fall. Others will rise. This always happens. But the overall numbers won't change a lot. There will still be more highly touted players in the 2019 recruiting class than ever before in the state of Tennessee.

And FTR the reason I say 2019 is gonna be the NEW NORMAL is because the 2020 class is even more talented. As you said, its still really early right now. The 2020 kids are only starting their sophomore years right now. But there are a lot of kids from the state of Tennessee in that class that have been identified as big time players. As I stated earlier, 247sports has already started rating the top 109 players in the 2020 class and there are 8 kids from the state of Tennessee in that top 109. That's good for 5th most behind Florida, Georgia, California, and Texas. And if you look at the states that are 6th, they have signficantly less players rated in the top 109. Tennessee is 5th with 8 players in the top 109. While the states that are tied for 6th have 4 players each.

Here's how the top 109 players in the 2020 class per 247sports break down:

1. Florida/Texas - 14
3. Georgia - 13
4. California - 12
5. Tennessee - 8
6. Louisiana/Maryland/North Carolina/Virginia/Arizona - 4

As I said, pretty big gap between Tennessee which ranks 5th and the states that are tied for 6th.

Tennessee is looking like it'll occupy a tier by itself going forward when it comes to instate talent. It won't be as fertile as the Big 4 (Florida, Georgia, Texas, and California). But it will occupy a tier by itself as the 5th best state when it comes to producing instate talent above states like Louisiana, Ohio, Alabama, and the DMV.
