Just like everyone that plays Texas Tech in the Big 12 refers to them as Tech. I'm sure Georgia Tech goes by Tech as well. Its not a big deal.

Yeah, but I don't think anybody else calls the Bulldogs by "State" except themselves.

OK, I'll start keeping an eye out on the boards to see who, besides Mississippi State fans, refer to you guys as "State".

Maybe I just missed it.

Right. This is similar to Texas Aggies. No one outside of A&M uses it.

Seems pretty straight forward to me. Mississippi is a long word to type or say. Lots of syllables. State is not. Why do people type LOL instead of "laughing out loud"? I mean come on.

I'm not saying I don't know who YOU are talking about when you say "State". I'm just saying I haven't observed anybody except MSU fans referring to you as "State". And I wondered why.

Michigan State

Granted this school as well refer to themselves as "State".

But really, its to make themselves appear more important to their home state at large. Who really cares?

I can honestly say that I have never and will never refer to LSU as "State."

Makes me feel like I'm talking about some fictional school in a movie or TV show. Go State!

Not as emphasized by our Athletic dept or fans.

OUR STATE and terms with State have been used in marketing a lot over the past 5 years.

I think Mullen is a pretty good coach, and State could sneak up on some people this year.

I think its other people referring to them as "State". I refer to them as "State" because MISSISSISSISSISSISSIPPI is just an inconvenient word to type or say.

Thank You

It's too hard for the Alsbama folks to comprehend.

Also if you have ever been to a Mississippi State football game our fight song is "Hail State" and we have chants that we say "GO STATE! GO STATE!"
