USNews ratings

WVU #168 ranked college
UK 129 tie
UT 106
LSU 129 tie
MSU 156
UM 149
UF 48

WVU would be the lowest academically rated school in the SEC. MSU votes yes?

Tennessee doesn't need another rival. Plus, we have more in common with Carolina/SW Va than WVa...I don't see any similarities besides having a few hillbillies that make shine and dig seng.

You could use a true rival other than Vandy. Florida, UGA, and USC all have primary rivals and it's not Tennessee. WVU needs a rival too, it's a good fit.

We're tied with LSU academically?!?? No way this is true; all they do is get drunk are wear around funny colored beads.

College football is only loosely associated with academics today. Virtually every school in the nation accepts athletes that wouldn't otherwise qualify for their school.

Some are harder than others but only minor differences.

I'm with you though. Dropping the entrance requirements for athletes should stop. The competition level would even out over the course of years.

Otherwise, let's just pay them and call it what it is.

Academically, they're a terrible university. They have one of the most trashy fan bases in all of American sports, and their state is a steaming pile of garbage.

So, a perfect fit for the SEC?

Do I want...no. Would I have taken them over Mizzou...of course. I would have also taken Clemson, Va Tech, GA Tech, Duke, Louisville, and La Tech over Mizzou.

Never understood anyone wanting them or VA tech. They bring literally nothing to the table. And no I don't think VA tech has the "dc market" like some people believe. No tv, no academics, moribund sports.

The sec needs to go after something like uva. Good athletics but not great in fb. The sec doesn't need another fb powerhouse. New tv market. Great academics. Uva brings several things to the conference.

I would say unc would be a jackpot but, they might not have an ath dept soon.

Nc St would be Meh but better than wva or VA tech.

Baylor would be interesting. Decent academics. Rising ath dept.

Just imagine what we could do if we decided to cut that out. We could get all the way to 99!

But fawk that.

I would like to see Va Tech and NC State.

You left the conference in 1863.

VA Tech would bring nearly the same market to the SEC as UVA. In fact, there are more Va Tech students than UVA students and less come from out of state. VT would give the SEC the DC market but that's mostly meaningless as it's not a college football crazy city.

Clemson brings nothing that scar doesn't already bring. Same story with louisville in relation to ky.

I'm all for gt coming back home and no I don't think uga means the sec already "has" atl. It's a massive city. There is more to be gotten there.

Not sure whether the sec would be interested in duke. Not really much of a tv market since the school is so small. Great academics obviously.

La tech?!?! Wow. No way. Worst suggestion ever.

I think we'd be a better addition than both of these.

You guys would enjoy Morgantown as well. It definitely has an SEC type atmosphere

WVU is the worst away game experience I have ever had. Terrible fans and terrible stadium.

Have you ever been to Louisville; football or basketball. WVU can't be any worse.

I just don't agree with this. It's not that big of a school. It's on the other side of the state. Uva is in between it and dc. VA tech is not a great academic school. It's a fb oriented school which the sec doesn't need. Uva objectively brings more to the sec.

it matters because it's tv sets the sec doesn't already have. If uva and VA tech are roughly equal in dc, which I think might be the case, uva brings more to the table and doesn't add another fb oriented school.

VT is bigger than most SEC schools no?
VT is ranked 71 by USNews. Compare that to most other SEC public schools and I'd think it's top 5 off the top of my head.

UF
UG
aTm
VT
Bama

UVA doesn't give much of a shite about football and if you want TV sets you need football. VA Tech is the better option overall IMO. I wouldn't be disappointed in UVA but those are some pompous bastards.

<-------------Native Virginian that's lived near VT and UVA at different points.
