Mullen is apparently very unpopular among high school coaches in Florida, some Florida Boosters told me and that he would never get the club as it would be instate recruiting diaster. Not sure why, but they would know and said he is widely hated. I was stunned but that were obviously correct

Really though, Strong was nothing special. The only thing he proved was that he could take 5 star talent and usually turn it into solid defense. About what you would expect. Nothing more, nothing special.

I vehemently disagree with this. Charlie Strong was one of the best defensive coordinators of all time.

A) Who do you think recruited that five-star talent?

B) Just watch the tape of our two national title games. Dominant defenses. If all it took was five star talent, USC would have won five or six titles in the past decade. Charlie Strong was able to put that talent into the right place to make plays. We completely shut down some very good offenses. Oklahoma averaged over FIFTY points a game in 2008 and we shut them down. In 2006 we were almost completely reliant on our defense, yet we managed to go 13-1 and win the national title.

I would like to see another defensive coordinator who has done as impressive a job as Charlie Strong did in his years at Florida.

This is very true and why he was never in consideration for the job. He doesn't have the best of relationships with the administration or those around the state.

I think Foley had settled in on Muschamp when Meyer almost left last year, so when it came time to pull the trigger he went with the guy he had already picked.

This is correct. Mullen is hard to get along with, period. That's why Meyer didn't let him get involved in recruiting while he was at UF.

sounds like it may be your problem, not strongs. thinking, that is. i can think of dozens of reasons why he didn't get the job and all you can think of is one.

I guess Kirby Smart is responsible for all the talent at UA.

When ppl think of Florida, they don't think of defense. They think of offense. You know, Chris Leak, Tim Tebow, Percy Harvin, etc. etc. etc..

Could it possibly be for the same reason Dan Mullen didn't get the call? Both were first year coaches at institutions they committed to as a HC. Signing a multi-year contract and then dumping the school where you get your first chance as a HC doesn't look to good on your resume.

Don't generalize outrageous claims....

Their defense of talent was ridiculous the past couple of years...

Just off the top of my head...
Brandon Spikes
Major Wright
Joe Haden
Carlos Dunlap
Reggie Nelson
Brandon Siler
Derrick Harvey
Jermaine Cunningham

All NFL early round draft picks.

Maybe they didn't want him? who freaking cares. I guess you think because his years at Florida and the fans liked him that he should have been hired? Its just not that simple. PPL need to quit blaming everything that happens to blacks on race.

Yeah it's easy to get Florida studs to go to UF.

But that's cool. It doesn't change the fact that Florida is known for their offense. Much like Florida during the Spurrier era.

But, since Strong is responsible for all the elite level talent at UF, like another poster suggested, is he responsible for all the arrests as well?

I don't have any inside knowledge or anything here, but why do people assume that Strong wanted to go back to Gainesville this year? I'm not saying that UF isn't a better job than Louisville--clearly it is--but maybe Strong is the type of coach who wants to stay at a program for longer than 1 season before moving on to greener pastures. From what I've read of Strong, he seems like a guy who would have more integrity than Lane Kiffin.

Charlie Strong having a white wife is a bigger deal than most of you think. I'd love to have him here at LSU whenever Miles chooses to retire. But, I can see a majority of LSU fans having a problem with Strong a personal level.

unless your the UTk then your coaches usually stick around more than one year, strong just got to louisville and it's best if he doesn't get a job hopper feel to him.

Yah, listening to Verne call the game, you would think all they have is offense.

However, if you actually have any IQ of college football, you would know that their defense was crazily stacked under Urban.

You know, that defense that sucked in 2007? It played a lot of freshman. Yah, those freshman turned out to be one of the best defenses in the league when they were sophomore's and juniors.

But, play dumb. It's okay. It's what bama fans do best.

I'm sure you've never heard Joe Haden, Brandon Spikes, Carlos Dunlap, or Major Wright.

In '07, we also played Mike Pouncey at DT because we literally ran out of DT's.

You don't say.

Yeah I recall Spikes gauging eyes and getting owned in the 2009 SECCG. I also recall Dunlap passing out at a red light drunk.

And ftr, Auburn fans shouldn't talk about football IQs. Swimming, maybe.

How about the fact he had left to coach at Louisville last year? Why would you bring back a coach that had left a year before?

If I had to choose between Strong and Muschamp...

I would've gotten Muschamp too. And I'm black....
