In other words, Clemson is trending down, SCAR is trending up ... that applies to everything in life. Growth, maintenance, decline. Business, life, football programs, whatever. Growth, maintenance, decline.

Really? The only trending up area I see when driving through South Carolina is Greenville, and I see more Clemson signage ( as in their satellite campus) there than USCE- although I have no idea how you consider USC-Greenville.

reviving a dead thread to reply to Scrooster:

South Carolina plays Clemson. Clemson actually is the marquee name in this series, despite the modern turnaround.

Even if that were true, which it's not ...

That wasn't meant as an insult. I think everyone knows SC is a rising force that Spurrier has created, and I don't think anyone expects your program to sink back into sub-500 ball after he leaves.
But, yes, Clemson is the "marquee" name in that series. Go outside this region, and pretty much any college football fan will acknowledge that Clemson is a recognizable name. That's what marquee means, the name has value. Michigan might get roasted by Michigan St right now, but to most casual fans, Michigan is the marquee name. Nebraska is also a marquee, despite the fact that they have struggled to stay ranked much in the past decade.

Ummm, SC plays a marquee OOC opponent (Clemson) every season... I dunno? Seems like that is the point of the thread??

Why did Mizzou drop the Illinois game? That seemed like a nice, interesting matchup, natural borders, major conference matchup etc. It would have sold seats I imagine, even if it lacked major TV revenue.

Illinois stopped the series because they couldn't win a game.

Mizzou won all 6 games in St.Louis
