Not comparing Amari to Jerry Rice but he reminds me of him. If a receiver can run perfect routes and catch the ball, he's damn near unstoppable.

Jerry rice was great, but was also the product of a great system, run by the architect of that system.

I think the comparison makes plenty of sense.

I also think I would prefer a size/strength freak over a Jerry Rice type in today's NFL.

I do too actually.

Maybe but I'm definitely curious to see what Cooper can do.

Cooper is Reggie Wayne made over. Will have a 12 year NFL career if healthy. He will have more yards and more catches than Jones by the time both are done. Cooper by a nose.

Would personally take Julio Jones over Amari Cooper, FYI. I was critical of both after their lackluster sophomore seasons.

I would love the Saints drafting Cooper. Saints would be stacked at wide receiver.

Amari is great, and might be a great NFL receiver, but he easily has more bust potential.

What has Coop showed you that he could potentially be a bust? You haven't watched much of him I can tell. Youtube him.....he's famous.

I remember you being particularly hard on Coop but boy did he prove you wrong in an awesome fashion. Coop > TTsTowel by a lot I mean whatever the greatest thing in the world compared to the worst.

Been searching for a good comparison. Reggie Wayne is a great one.

I disagree. The smarts to make the right reads in option routes and running crisp routes is hugely important in the pro game.

Of course you'd rather the physical specimen who can also run good routes and make the right reads, but if it's just one or the other I take the technically gifted player over the freak.

Just so happens Coop is being compared to Rice and rightfully so...Coop has legendary work ethic that teams will LOVE. What was Mr. Rice great at doing? ROUTE RUNNING and catching everything. That certainly reminds me of someone who this threads about. It's very exciting times for this Cooper feller.

What are some looking at to think Cooper doesn't have elite or sub 4.4 speed? I swear I don't get it. Kevin Norwood ran in the 4.4 range at the combine. Ain't no way in hell Norwood is faster than Cooper.

This. A lot of fans fall into this trap. I love Amari and think he will be a great NFL receiver as well, but I think Julio is the better receiver. Hell, he's an elite WR right now and top 3 in the league IMO. Coop gets to play in a more pass heavy offense with an OC known for abusing opposing defenses with his dominant receiver. Julio played in a super heavy run offense and had a QB who struggled with all touch passes (McElroy). Blake Sims isn't necessarily a better passer, but he actually knows what a fade pass is and puts a little air under his throws when needed. GMac just threw bullets which didn't allow Julio to use some of his freakish abilities. I still remember that throw McCarron made to him in garbage time. It was off target, but he let him go get it by putting a little air under it. It's fun to think of the potential stats he could have put up if McCarron and Julio could've played a whole season together.

Digging this up after julio puts up 259 yds on the pack. I might be wrong but I don't think amari is on on his level as a professional.

Who cares? Amari took over more games in a college season than Julio. Amari is by far best player on team - Julio was one of many.

Both great - blah blah - act like you've had good receivers before.

Cooper has to prove he can do what Julio has done in the NFL. The DBs are faster and stronger in the NFL.

While this is very contradictory, I think your point is that cooper doesn't have elite speed? I had this same argument with another lsu fan last year. I'm not sure where the idea is coming from, but it's wrong. Coop can FLY. He just does it so effortlessly that you don't notice.

As for the thread topic, Julio is one of my all time favorite Bama players. He was a physical freak. But I think cooper is a more polished COLLEGE player. It would have been interesting to see Julio in kiffin's offense though.
