Well when we played AU our defense was trash. We improved towards the end of the season on the defensive side. Our offense got 1 sided when Mett start playing average. So who knows who would have won. We will see next year. This thread is pointless but it is successfully rustlin jimmies.

I don't think any lsu fans have rustled jimmies from this. Because we aren't the ones living in Mulligan land
What is up with Alabama and mulligans. It must take 2 days to play a round of golf in that state.

I even missed the obvious question. Would this have been the only game between the two, or a re-match? I think the re-match would heavily favor Auburn. Only game? Probably LSU.

And I think it would likely be a lot closer than many Auburn fans in this thread think it would be. Pointing to 1 game (Arkansas) as a barometer for a 3 TD Auburn victory in a rematch is misguided. Auburn improved but not the the tune of a 30+ point swing in the outcome of a game.

that's just not true... after the UF game, LSU continued to give up well over 5 yards per play in SEC games... 6.25 @ OM... 6.00 @ Bama... 5.07 vs A&M... 5.71 vs Ark.
if the defense can't get back to the top 1/4 of the SEC, it could be a long year for LSU in 2014.

LSU. Well depending on LSU qb.
AU was a better team in Nov ~ but Chief has the recipe to defend the hunh/fast-pace offenses, he knows how to neutralize 'em. LSU wins with Hill toting the rock and the Chavis defensive scheme.

I can already see the board-wide sig bet coming.
How you aubs can't just give Chavis credit for having Gus and Sumlin figured out is beyond me. It'll be the same next year, and there will be another excuse.

Well, you're also giving credit to LSU's first half, which I believe is extraordinary even for the time. I don't think the second half is necessarily representative either, but I think in a series of games at that point, LSU is winning them by an average of 7-10 or so, which would represent a solid win but a competitive game.
Thus, I don't think Auburn needs a 30 point swing to win a solid rematch. We'd need a 15-20 point swing, which may be relatively accurate, to win a rematch by 7 to 10.
Honestly, I think the rematch would have been somewhat similar to the Auburn-UGA game, in that Auburn had the potential to win with some ease, but that could be mitigated by great performances or lapses on our side. We know how that game played out, and could have played out.
For the detractors, I'm not trying to revise history, I'm just having fun with hypotheticals. Auburn was significantly better, IMO, than LSU or UGA at the end of 2013. That said, Auburn was never at a point where it was above succumbing to other teams' extraordinary performances or our own screw ups, hence a lot of close games that could have ended up, or did end up, as either as losses or as double digit wins.

I am willing to put a ban bet up for the rest of the 2014 season that LSU wins in Jordan Hare.
But I know none of them will take it.

Some Aubies don't count this because 103 of his yards came on two carries.
Least impressive 180 yd 3 TD game ever!!!

They could have won if they would have left Marshall at Saftey. The two they had were scared to tackle Hill

I haven't seen anyone who really discounted Hill. But things happen, and to expect that Hill would consistently put up 180/3 against Auburn last year is just unrealistic. Just like it is unrealistic for Auburn fans to think the second half of that game was the true nature of the game.

I don't think people realize just how bad LSU's defense was last year (when compared to LSU standards)...
In SEC Games last year:
5th in PPG (24)... 5th in YPG (399)... 7th in YPP (5.73)... 9th in plays defended (370 more than bama who was 1st)... 8th in rush YPG (170)... 7th in pass YPG (229).
those are some painfully mediocre numbers... can the defense improve enough to account for the drop in offensive production in 2014?
and we still beat your arse?

Game played in Dome? Advantage Auburn...no stiff dew.
Mizzou in 2013: Auburn scored 59
Virginia in 2011: Auburn scored 43
South Carolina in 2010: Auburn scored 56

It appeared to be a fairly average D, granted, but we finished #8 in Total D last year.

Well that's the $64,000 question. Last year we average 450 yards a game with a 250/200 pass/rush split. That might be simply switched this year, don't know. I think everyone is expecting the D to be better.

What's hilarious is trying to use the fact that our defense was sub-par as an assertion that LSU would lose. Chavis fielded his most lack luster defense at LSU and still took Gus to school, in wet conditions that should have favored AU. That speaks volumes about Chavis's game plan.
