I want to say Thomas Davis because how many guys can play through 3 blown knees and still be as good as him, but he wasn't an amazing athlete, just the most resilient.

AJ was an amazing athlete too, but it is Champ Bailey. 4.28 40 yard, 3.79 3-cone, etc.

Plus he backs it up on the field by being one of the GOAT corners.

PP7 was the best lockdown corner in the history of LSU football

This statement is correct but again I will have to say that athletically, TM7 put on a pretty good show for two seasons. His athletic ability and awareness on the field bump him over PP7 IMO.

I'm gonna give the nod to Mathieu. Peterson was bigger, faster and more skilled, but Mathieu was "more athletic", if you get my meaning.

Peterson came out of several games with cramps, including during some white-knuckle times (North Carolina comes to mind). That drops him a notch or 2; in addition you have to look at some of the cat-quick things Mathieu did with his hands on the field. Those strip-and-recover fumbles he caused were unreal.

It took entirely too long for Chad Jones to get mentioned. Dude was a pro caliber safety and returner and pro caliber pitcher.

I don't think you guys understand what athleticism is. What Mathieu was able to do on a football field had a lot more to do with hand eye coordination, ball skills, and God given instincts than pure athleticism.

PP7 is widely regarded as one of the best pure athletes in the NFL and Chad Jones is a professional caliber athlete in 2 sports. As far as natural athletic ability Mathieu isn't even close to these 2.

ETA: You can certainly make an argument for Mathieu being a better football player, though. His instincts and ball skills are out of this world.

Maybe so. To me, hand-eye coordination is part of athleticism, and so is endurance, explosive fast muscle, etc.
We all have opinions on what is what.

Hell, in thinking about it, I might change my answer for LSU. We had a pretty good athlete on offense, played WR for a year or so. Xavier Carter.
