I did not know Dj was that athletic. I'd imagine LSU's has got to be PP7. Dude was unreal out there.

He was kidding.

It's easily Peterson for us. Kevin Faulk was a freak also.

I'm pretty glad we didn't have to go against HB again. He rustled my jimmies and was a heck of a player. I'm glad to see him succeed in the pros.

I don't think PP7 had a better career than claiborne. TM7 the best player LSU ever had and it's not even close.

During the BCS era, I could make an argument for 4 guys:

Anthony Wright - played Pro baseball (minor league) and played in the NFL for 9 seasons.

Syvelle Newton - He could play and excel at any offensive or defensive skill position. He was a phenomenal football player that we shouldn't have moved from the QB spot, or we should have stuck him at WR his whole career.

Clowney - just a freak athlete for a big man, shoots lightening from stares and made Dee Ford quit.

Bruce Ellington - college BBall and FBall and was really good at both, will play in the NFL. Also played baseball in HS and could've played at a small college baseball team if he wanted. He's like Wright in that he's just great at all sports.

Reggie McNeal. He was faster and had a better arm than Manziel. He played for an awful coach around poor talent in a bad scheme and had his own "issues" off the field, supposedly, but in terms of raw athleticism, Reggie > Johnny.

Everyone will say mcfadden, but Matt Jones could be mentioned too. 6'6, 240 and a 4.37? Ridiculous

McFadden's 4.33 at 6'2, 205 is impressive too

I almost said Matt Jones. But Mcfadden takes the cake for his power. And I think Mcfadden was faster than a 4.33 when being chased.

As far as pure athleticism the only thing Manziel probably has him beat on his change of direction in the open field. Overall I agree though. A focused McNeal in a scheme like ours or Oregon or Auburn would be a scary thing

If we go by athlete, then for UGA, I'm going with Cornelius Washington. Here is is combine numbers:

6-4 265lbs
4.53 forty, with his low being 4.5
10' 8" broad jump
39" vertical
36 reps @ 225lbs

These numbers was even better than Clowneys. But he didnt do much at UGA, but he was a 3-4 DE that would be better suited as a 4-3 DE.

Also D Pollack might be the runner up. His 3 cone drill and 20 yard short shuttle was faster than AP's.

During that era it seemed that I was constantly in arguements about Reggie being a superior athlete to Vince. Vince was bigger and could shed hits better, but Reggie was faster in a straight line and had an arm that was several orders of magnitude better. Reggie was actually a gunslinger - a throw-first guy famous for his huge arm - who just happened to also have a 4.35 40-yard dash. We haven't had a QB who could throw frozen ropes like that since. I mean lasers. Sadly, because he was fast, Fran stuck him in a throwback pure option attack that wasted his best attribute and frustrated and injured him. When SUMLIN was our OC his freshman year he had all the potential in the world.
