since the majority seems to be choosing muschamp, i'll go with chavis.

i really hope gus and boom personalities/egos will prove to be oil and water- maybe boom won't adjust to going back to simply being a dc very well.

Muschamp leaves Auburn in 2 years. Chief will be at A&M until retirement

I can't call it.

I just want to field a defense that doesn't make me take shots every down.

Neither. First, to have a GREAT defense you have to be ball control, 6 minute drive, make the other offense get cold type of offense. In both offenses you either score or punt so fast that the D doesn't get a rest. Everybody talks about Bama's drop off in D, well this contributed to it, not talent. THe hurry up installed has directly correlated to some shotty defense. Stallings, Dye, Dooley, Saban, Tuberville, even Miles all had great defense because of the way they played offense (slooooow) and emphasis was put on Defense every day every week. Both guys are good but with these style of offenses don't expect to just give up 7 pts a game. They will never get their D's below 20 pt averages in terms of what they give up. AU and A&M simply give teams they play too many snaps to keep their scoring down.

Pure bullshite. Who had the #1 rated D this season? Clemson.

This. Clemson offense was run by a Malzahn clone.

Aubie got the Hogs at a good time.

We would've beat dat arse if we played later in the year when Gus's team was free falling.

Neither. Both coaches will end up being hamstrung by the offensive-minded head coaches that treat defense like a dirty word, and leave in 2-3 years.

It's easy to say "if". The fact is you got your arse handed to you.

Chavis

No defense has ever really performed playing on the opposite side of Malzahn.

Both AU and TAMU have offenses who are usually capable of putting up enough points to win just about every game we play.

Explain 59-0 then.

Auburn scored 44 against the exact same team.

true... but I can't believe he wouldn't be able to modify his system until that happens. Hell, his contract is only three years, so he's got to produce results quickly.

True but all he has to do is show improvement from year to year...and as bad as A&Ms D was that wont be hard...

Not a flame...I know AUs D sucked as bad or worse than A&Ms...just making a point.
