But it is well known that Saban wears on his assistant coaches too. He doesn't treat people well on a pretty basic level and that's why nobody likes him personally.

Is that why Kirby Smart has stuck around so long, despite having other opportunities? Or what about RB coach Burton Burns? He's been at Bama since 2007. Or Bobby Williams, who coached under Saban at Michigan State and has been at Bama for several years? Or how about Kevin Steele and Lance Thompson? Neither are at Bama now but they came with Saban in his first year, left for other jobs, then later returned. And then there's Bo Davis. He coached under Saban at Bama, left for Texas, then returned much like Steele and Thompson did. There is zero credible evidence Saban mistreats his assistants. He's demanding for sure but there are ways to do that and still be respectful. You're just a butt hurt LSU fan whose pussy still hurts because Saban is at Bama. GFY & DIAF

Spurrier was entertaining and fun at times, Saban never is.

I have always liked Spurrier, but there are a number of coaches I dislike more than Saban.

I try not to use the word hate, for someone I have never even met.

I think you answered your own question.

Spurrier wins this contest in a landslide.

I don't hate Saban. I've never hated Saban. I respect Saban.

I genuinely hated Spurrier for many years. After he went to Carolina, he was far more humble and likable. Eventually, I grew to like him and recognized his talents. He's now one of my favorite coaches. I'm sure I'm far from alone.

But back in the 90s, Spurrier was far more hated than Saban has ever been.

Saban has plenty of humorous moments. His sense of humor is often dry but it's there.

I can't speak for everyone but I don't hate Saban at Alabama. I don't even hate Alabama the team.

I hate you and everyone like you. your fanbase is insufferable.

If Saban retired or bolted for the NFL tomorrow, I assure you there will be far more celebrating than when Spurrier bolted for the NFL.

I'll confess this even though I shouldn't:
I got giddy like a teenage girl yesterday when I heard Cowherd discussing Saban bolting for the Colts. Only for a moment. Then I calmed down and realized how silly that was. But my gut reaction was absolute joy at that possibility. Sad, but true. I'll be honest.

Everyone hated Spurrier in the 90s ... even those in other conferences.

No one really hates Saban. How can you really hate a midget? You almost have to cheer for him overcoming his deficiencies and all.

What people do hate is the Bama/Saban combo ... in terms of the fans and the coach, as a whole. Not me mind you - but most.

Bama + Saban just comes-across as toxic, in a fuming smelly sorta sulfuric way. Apart neither is particularly caustic ... but together they are acidic.

I have to refer back to the pre-Bama years to have an unbiased opinion but when Saban was at LSU, I didn't hate him. I hated that Bama had to play him. His teams were physical and they had the fundamentals down. You knew that your team was probably about to get schooled. When the game was no longer in doubt, Saban would call off the dogs.

Spurrier, on the other hand, was just a jackass who would run up the score on the blind sisters of the poor. One of the most enjoyable games I ever watched that didn't involve Bama was watching Nebraska slap Spurrier around like he owed them money.

Well, Fran beat him 31-0.

Were I a Bama fan, I probably wouldn't have hated him then either.

Easily Spurrier bc he ran up the score whenever he could.
True, but back then there was a reason for it. Stupid AP voters who didn't watch games and only looked at the score, so teams like Florida and Nebraska ran it up as high as they could every game to get more votes. No mercy.

Nonetheless I HATED Spurrier back then. I respect Saban's coaching ability but I hate him b/c he's an a-hole and a prick.

Yeah I don't know what it is about Saban's first year with a school. Once he gets things straightened out though, he tough to deal with. The year after Bama beat him 31-0, LSU beat Bama by a similar score.

Man.. I hated Spurrier at Florida. So I understand the reasoning behind anyone that hates Saban at Bama.

In ways I could see how those that are older would say Spurrier... cause he really loved to run up the score and rub your face in it.

But Saban has been more consistent in winning, so that definitely would bother others more...

I would add, a little more humble at it too.

I like them both honestly. Both are/were great coaches and seem like decent people. Petrino and Urban Meyer can STTDB though

I agree. I actually liked Saban at LSU. Not him kicking Bama's arse, obviously, but as a coach.

Y'all have no idea how much I was laughing watching Gene Chizik of all people run up the score on Steve Spurrier.
