Lester would crowd the line crouch way down had a OL/DL face mask and he was like a black Gene Simmons with his look without a helment on.

Peterson probably had more of an impact than you think. With him on the field, your defense only has to defend 50% of the field in pass D.

All the Raiders db's back then hit pretty well but the safeties are the the ones who brought the hammer. Best defensive backfield ever when they had Hayes, Haynes, Tatum & Atkinson.

For LSU the 3 db's that had the biggest impact I'll go with PP, Mathieu, Casanova & Landry. Landry was the missing piece for LSU'S defense as the year before safety play hurt us so much. He stepped in as a true freshman and helped lead is to a national championship so my vote goes to him as having the biggest impact.

Tatum and Atkison never played with Hayes and Haynes.

It was McElroy and someone I have no clue.

Haynes was traded to the Raiders by New England the year they beat Washington.

Stephon Gilmore.

Not only was he a leader, not only was he a player, not only did he go high in the first round ... but he was responsible for bringing Holloman, Stewart, Lattimore, Alshon and Clowney to us.

You can't get anymore impactful than that.

At LSU you're choosing among Tyrann Mathieu, Patrick Peterson, and Tommy Casanova. The best was Patrick Peterson. He was simply better than Casanova. And although Mathieu was hands down the most entertaining, Peterson quietly dominated every play, not just the occasional game changing play.

Atwater was one of the most vicious DB hitters I've ever seen.

And I definitely remember Lester Hayes and the "stick-em" those guys used on their hands. Hayes was just flat out nasty back in then day
