Bo Jackson the greatest SEC athlete ever. Maybe all time.

Because he played 2 sports? Herschel was better than Bo at the sport that they both played, yet was also a world class sprinter, a 7th degree black belt, an olympic bobsledder, and is undefeated in MMA as a frickin 40 year old.

For ALABAMA
1. Derek Thomas FB
2. Kirani James T&F
3. Don Hutson FB
4. John Hannah FB
5. Ashley Miles GYM
6. Trent Richardson FB
7. Joe Namath FB
8. Kelly Kretschman SB
9. Leon Douglas BB
10. Jerry Pate GOLF
last three out, but still totally awesome
11. Reggie King BB
12. Terin Humphrey GYM
13. Mark Ingram FB
Miles, Kretschman, and Douglas aren't fit to carry Jonty Skinner's speedos. I'd even put Skinner ahead of Jerry Pate.
Ever heard of him?
And Reggie King ahead of Big Shot Bob?

Reggie holds Alabama's all time scoring record.... and played before the 3 pt. no I haven't heard of Jonty Skinner apart from I hear he's a coach at UA now so sorry for leaving him out, also I know little of our baseball history so I hope we've never had an absolutely outstanding diamond baller I left out. In any event, I'd love to see your top 10 Bama athletes

Nothing against Walker. But given the first pick in the draft I'll Bo every time.

The 3 point line would not have added one point to The Mule's career scoring total. The lack of the 3 point line only meant fewer points for backcourt players. King also benefitted from playing at the beginning of the freshman eligible era, but before the great exodus of good underclass players to the NBA.

World record holder at the time for the 100 meter freestyle, would have competed in the Olympics if not for the ban on South African athletes and his inability to get US citizenship in time. Not to mention the fact that he's in the International Swimming Hall of Fame.

Well, if you're going to have Don Hutson, you need to have Joe Sewell
Dave Magadan had an 17 year unspectacular career in the major leagues...but Sewell is in the HOF.
Most of your list I like...probably would have Horry, maybe TR Dunn, definitely Sewell. It's hard to narrow down a list of ten at Alabama. Dwight Stephenson is probably the greatest player of all time at his position.

I think you could throw Leonard Little in there too.
And if we're talking sheer athleticism, I would put Willie Gault in there too. The guy ran a 4.4 at age 50 (0.22 secs faster than Mark Ingram, who was a 1st round pick at the time Gault's 40 was recorded).

If we're only talking about college, have to add Coryatt, Rodney Thomas, and Aaron Glenn. If including the pros, Ray Childress should be in, too. Would take Lechler off; he's had a HOF career but he doesn't really fit the 'athlete' mold.
Watching him warm up as the emergency QB in the '98 Big XII Championship game was a sad, sad sight.

Posted by WG_Dawg quote: He had the greatest shot in the history of any level of golf
Unless he aced a par 5, that's a pretty bold claim.
It's obviously subjective but I've seen it also stated that way in a golf industry magazine (I work in the golf industry)
He blindly hit a gap wedge from buried in the rough from 125 yards out behind a grass knoll and stuck it 3" from the pin on the last hole of the last match of the NCAA championship to win it all (this was against UGA)
Bold statement? Yeah. But it's in consideration to knock it 3" from the hole when you can't even see the flag or green with the championship on the line and the other golfer had just erased a 5 hole lead I'm the last 5 holes to force a winner take all hole on the last hole of the championship. The UGA golfer was in the middle of the fairway also with an easier shot as Burgoon was buried in the rough because he had started spraying his driver on hole 12
