Well, it's always going to be that way due to sheer quantity of numbers.

Just to put it into perspective, if you added the populations of Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama together it would still be a smaller number than Florida, and roughly a third of the size of California, but I bet that group would have more natives on NFL rosters.

are you for real? theyve only led USC to being one of the 5 greatest college football programs of all time and UCLA a top 15 program of all time. a shite load of players from california go pro every year.

Don't you know all USC's players are all overrated because writer X and coach X didn't vote for them to be in the championship game

Florida crushes Texas in highschool football.

Can't remember last time a NCAA champion didn't have a kids from Florida on the team.

Texas, Florida and California. However, given their respective populations Georgia is a more impressive football state than California.

If we're playing this game, ill add: Given their respective regions, however, Georgia should curb stomp Cali. Who in Georgia doesn't grow up loving/playing football?

How many people in Cali really care about football?

California owns sports.

Most NFL players
Most NBA players
Most MLB players
and something like 25% of the entire US Olympic team

Eh, has nothing to do with football. It's sort of like the South having the best football prospects, but generally being turrible at basketball. There's just more of a push towards football than basketball. Cali, on the other hand, seems a more(how do I put this?) cultured sports state. I'm assuming they put huge numbers of players into the MLS as well as

Other non-football sports.
The south lives and dies by CFB, the west coast, not so much.

Now, this right here

Most NFL players

is more on track with discrediting my post.
But, it still doesn't discredit the fact that most gifted athletes in the south are pushed towards football while many gifted athletes from Cali are divided into a multitude of sports.

if anything, it sort of backs my post.

It would be interesting to see the numbers of a state like Cali if they were predominantly football driven at a young age to the same extent of the deep south. How much would their numbers rise?

Mississippi has the most top-division athletes per capita in the United States with one per every 39,443 people. (California has one per 105,341)

I see a lot of posters are still hung up on the sheer numbers of some states, but I was looking at it from a different angle, for example I come from La. Some say a hot bed for high school football talent, would if I were a coach, go trying to raid the other larger states that have higher populations for my team, or could I just feast on the rich talent in my own state and have a number one class with a few other top prospects from other states. And remember we are looking for quality not quantity. I would put the best of La. against any state in a head to head.

This is the best methodology to answer the question posed. On a mobile device and the quote isn't formatted properly.....but I take them in that order:

-Florida
-Georgia
-Louisiana
-Alabama

If you look at track stats, these are also the fastest states in terms of 100m, 200m and 110m hurdles speed, adding Texas and North Carolina as they produce top notch sprint times as well. Different breed of athletes from these states.
