Well if we're going to do this based only on merit, let's take the best school in each state.
But the SEC doesn't care as much about merit as they do coverage area and that is why the last 4 expansions teams haven't really improved anything. They picked 4 schools in states the SEC wasn't in. Adding the Championship game with Arky and USCe is the only reason the SEC seemed to improve.

It's about taking the best team from each state to maximize the potential of the SEC Network.
The Tide can easily carry the TV sets in Bama. If Auburn was cut loose literally dozens of people would notice.

The SEC is far and away the best conference in America. I believe in keeping it a traditional south eastern based conference.
