We would be under sanctions. Hell we were under sanctions for like 3 years from his 1 season there. His recruiting class looked good on rivals website but go take a gander at how those guys turned out. He was a vastly superior coach to Dooley but that's not saying much. He may be more mature and better after his Bama tenure but he was a train wreck waiting to happen at UT. I just wish he would have left at a time we could hire someone better than Derek f%$@ing dooley

I recall there being some pretty bad years when Fulmer was on his way out.

One bad year and a few mediocre ones. But no one's confidence was low. If anything we were overconfident and hired a flashy but well known failure in Kiffin to replace a HoF coach who'd had some recruiting busts. But he brought his dad with him so we thought that would make it ok.

But if the same guy blocks multiple kicks from the same team during the same game, can they still be called flukes?

For real. Many UT fans still exhibit some signs of occasional PDSD (our version of PTSD with Dooley) to this day. Especially in the first 2 years post Dooley. When UT lined up for a 19 yard field goal down 21-20 with :03 left and a chance to knock off a good SC team in 2013, the PDSD made me certain that we would miss. I'm pretty sure it did the same for most UT fans as well. Even after we made it, I waited to truly celebrate until I had triple checked to make sure there was no flag on the field.

Lincoln was injured, Kiffie knew he was injured. He had no business attempting long kicks. I don't think Kiffie deserves any credit for recruiting. He recruited a lot of thugs who could not be expected to contribute for 3 or 4 years, and they didn't.

I used to cross my fingers every time we'd kick anything. I can remember when Palardy finally got better under Jones, I'd celebrate every kick. I still celebrate successful kicks.

PDSD is real.

I'll never understand why Kiffin decided to run the clock out after Stocker's catch. There was roughly 45 seconds left when everyone was lined up which was more than enough time for Tennessee to get down the field another 15-20 yards. Instead, he decided to trot out a dogshit kicker to try for a 50 yarder when he had already been blocked once and had been way short on another.

Celebrating when we didn't fumble a punt was also a thing. And celebrating when your defense gets a stop on 3rd and 20.

He did that because he thought the refs would frick UT over if we tried advancing it much farther. That was the year where nearly every week there was a conspiracy about the refs letting UF and Bama win. Arkansas in particular got hosed.

Why do so many people keep saying sanctions?

But in all fairness to kiffin, I am sure he has learned a lot under Saban.

Because it is true. Kiffin played very fast and loose with the rules at UT. That may not be uncommon, but he also called a lot of attention to himself and basically flaunted it.

Outside of Tennessee, nobody liked him. He would have been an easy target for the NCAA to use as an example to others and nobody would have said one thing about it.

Tennessee was getting in hot water with the NCAA when Kiffin was here. I'm not sure if they would've hammered Tennessee had Kiffin stayed but they were definitely watching closely. Remember all the crap about Kiffin sending hostesses to a high school game in South Carolina? The NCAA was digging hard for some dirt after that but Kiffin had already left when UT went before the NCAA

This is correct imo. Everyone was wanting to bust his arse. Kiffin came in talking shite and ruffling feathers and made a lot of enemies in a very short time. Lane was a big believer in there being no such thing as bad publicity

He used some shady-arse tactics while he was here. He would bring hot college age females to HS players games, I believe they were called something like the "Volunteer pride" squad or something. There were several other things as well. We eventually self reported them and got a few lashes from the NCAA, and I think we were on probation as well, but we didn't get anything too serious.

I wouldn't expect a class to stay together when the HC leaves after 1 year.

But that certainly is telling as to the type of kids he recruited.
